We had the good fortune of connecting with Portia Murphy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Portia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I knew I wanted to follow in my parents’ footsteps and be self-employed, so I looked into the best business for me (I am pursuing acting so it made sense), and started my own LLC!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most excited about the years I’ve devoted to acting and how it has inspired my creativity. I started at a very young age (https://www.portiamurphy.com) and worked my way up as I got older. It was easy as a kid but became harder as I began competing with teenagers. I’d like the world to know that if you work hard enough, nothing is impossible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them on a trip via Amtrak’s Acela to Providence, Rhode Island, one of the most underappreciated cities in the country (IMO). We would start out at Plant City, having avocado toast for breakfast then take the ferry boat to Newport. “Root” is an amazing plant-based restaurant and it’s near one of my favorite hotels – the Marriott in Newport, RI. We could go on a sailboat ride during the day and spend the evenings walking through the cool streets of Newport.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shout-out to my parents, especially my dad and his law firm (https://www.thenursinghomeattorneys.com) that inspired me to start my own business.
