We had the good fortune of connecting with Phyllis Bowman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Phyllis, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting a business is a commitment and requires dedication, resources, and sacrifice. When I decided to pursue a career in Real Estate, my thoughts were to do something I enjoyed doing that provided me a good salary, and I wanted to do something where I could be a resource of knowledge to people in the community who perhaps had been limited to receiving information in the past concerning real estate and its many benefits to set them on a path to attain wealth. Most important was leaving a legacy for my two children.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Reflecting to when I was an employee, I have always put forth my best effort 99% of the time, even when I felt that the processes in place could be improved. I wanted to make sure that I was a team player that added value and was part of the reason for the company’s success. However, being an employee did not bring me satisfaction or contentment. Although I did work for some very good companies in the lending industry, I soon realized that I could not have the lifestyle or contentment that I desired being an employee. As I continued to work and learn, I developed several professional skills sets that I would need in pursuing my own business and career in real estate. From working on teams to setting and reaching goals, to providing a legendary customer experience, I am the professional that I am today because of my past work experience. I am forever grateful for every relationship made and every path taken to get me where I am today in business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was visiting and I needed to show her a good time, I would probably take her to Red O in Santa Monica right across the street from the Santa Monica Pier for some amazing Mexican food. Knowing her the way that I do, we are both lovers of music and so on a different night we could go to Back Bay at Hyatt Regency Newport Beach and enjoy a Summers night concert. Then on another night, we might enjoy some fine dining at Maestros in Malibu, or we could enjoy a nice dinner at Pacific Seafood Grill in Beverly Hills. Those are just a few places we could go and hang out and have a good time. Another place I would take her is to Ahmanson Theatre at the music center to enjoy a nice play or show such as “Ain’t too Proud”—The life and Times of the Temptations, It just depends on what event is going on, and of course we could do some shopping on any given day at Westfield in Century City.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my family for pushing me to continue taking my business to the next level. From my husband and his gift to invent and see things beyond what the natural eye could see, to seeing one of his ideas patented. Secondly, I watched my son market himself in the music and recording industry in such a way that he not only connected himself well in that industry, but he has worked with several renowned artist and he continues to take his talents and gifts to the next level. My daughter Marissa has given me many take always such as making sure I know the importance of research and how to establish myself as the go to expert in my field. Marissa is a strong tower, in that she runs her own landscaping business as well as maintain a full-time director position at PATH, a non-profit organization working towards ending homelessness. I also want to shout out my two sisters Mary and Jerri. They are also a support when it comes to helping me to stay focused on my goals, encouraging me to never give up, and reminding me often that I will always be teaching a class (Smile). I know I am blessed to have all of them constantly making me aware of my importance as expert in the field of real estate, as well as a mortgage banking professional.
