We had the good fortune of connecting with Paulina Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paulina, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
To me, happiness is a feeling that radiates in many aspects of being a photographer. It makes me extremely happy to share my photography with fellow creatives in front or behind the camera: to be able to connect and bond over something we are all passionate about, and seeing our hard work come to life through all efforts is an unmatched feeling of joy. It makes me really happy to constantly put my mind and soul into my work, and to use photography as a medium to connect with those around me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Absolutely. I could describe myself a bit as a Jack of all trades because I have dabbled in a lot of different areas of photography, such as product, event, editorial, and beauty photography. I, however, am known for my creative and editorial photographic projects. Many people that I have worked with, contact me when they have an unconventional idea, because they know I am able to work with them to achieve that the concept they have in mind. My line of work is a fusion between editorial and creative projects, always ensuring each photo is carefully crafted.

One of the things I am most proud of is knowing that I built my photography persona from the ground up. I take pride in my hard work, my dedication, and my drive to take a hobby so dear to me and turn it into a meaningful part of my life. Some of the struggles I have faced as a photographer and creative director, is that people constantly expect you to be a creative powerhouse and someone whose original ideas always come easily and are never-ending. But the truth is that one of the hardest challenges about being a photographer is the feeling of burnout that we are constantly experiencing.

At the end of the day, through my work I seek to achieve one simple goal — to create art that surpasses the visual field and brings people together.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That is a difficult question because San Diego is such a beautiful place in all around, it’s hard to narrow it down. I would take my friends to north San Diego and visit La Jolla, a beautiful place neighboring the sea. We would have dinner at George’s At The Cove, and walk around the area filled with small shops and restaurants. My itinerary would also include having a nice dinner in Downtown or Little Italy. A visit to Coronado beach is also part of San Diego’s top spots, especially the Hotel Del Coronado.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest thanks go out to my family for their encouragement and love they have given me ever since I began my photography endeavors. They have always been my biggest supporters and thanks to them, I began to like photography in the first place, and have been able to grow in it ever since.

I also want to give a big shoutout to my creative team, muses, friends, and and everyone else I’ve had the pleasure of working with since PRG.PH began and even before. I am so grateful to be surrounded by amazing people and for the trust they have given me when it comes to creating and making visual memories.
