We had the good fortune of connecting with Paulina Maria Rico Lucero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paulina Maria, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is self-care, both for myself and my customers. The idea behind my business is to handcraft alternative self-care products with organic and locally trusted ingredients, with love, intention, and perseverance. Our mission is also to lessen and diminish the stigma folks have against Cannabis, since some of our products contain Cannabis compounds. We would rather love to connect folks to the medicinal and beneficial world of Cannabis, as well as other medicinal plants and herbs. To find other ways to heal, while taking care of ourselves, our community and our Earth.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Apart from my small business, I am studying natural building techniques and clay plaster murals. Before the plandemic, I travelled almost 2 years through South America, where I found myself playing with the earth in artistic ways, such as cob building, adobes, creating sculptures, etc. I started volunteering and going to workshops to better my skills. I became so passionate about this work that I began contemplating it to become part of my professional career. Apart from this project, I am trying to step into the medicinal mushroom cultivating world as well to try to incorporate it into my herbal business!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely Balboa Park. One of my favorite places in San Diego. Close to hillcrest and north/south park, hip, bohemian neighborhoods with incredibly delicious restaurants. I would also take them to Coronado Beach, and maybe across the border to Tijuana.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my mother, Claudia Lucero. She has been an incredible support throughout our 4 years of entrepreneurship. Now that I have been riding solo in this business, she has been my back up support when I am not in town, for example. Claudia is always available to give me a hand and to give me critical feedback about a design or name of product, etc. She definitely deserves incredible recognition for Herbal Sanctuary. A huge pillar to the growth of this business. I think without my mother I would be struggling to continue it.
