We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Scalone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paul, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I want to share the inspiration behind Encore—a specialized service within my real estate offerings designed to support the healthcare community and families navigating the transition to their next phase of homeownership.

Addressing a Growing Market Need – I recognized the impact of the Silver Tsunami, where millions of baby boomers will be selling their homes between 2027 and 2037. With a deep understanding of real estate and healthcare, I saw an opportunity to provide a seamless transition for seniors moving into retirement communities or downsized living spaces.

Bridging Healthcare and Real Estate – With my background in healthcare, I understand the emotional and logistical challenges seniors and their families face during life transitions. I wanted Encore to provide a dignified, stress-free, and financially advantageous way for seniors to sell their homes while maximizing equity.

Providing a Unique, Hassle-Free Selling Solution – Many seniors need to sell their homes quickly but don’t want to sacrifice value. Encore offers an innovative approach by allowing sellers to receive the after-renovated value of their homes without selling to an iBuyer or flipper. This ensures they don’t leave money on the table.

Leveraging Compass’s Resources – With Compass Concierge and other technology-driven solutions, I saw an opportunity to offer a structured, high-value selling experience. Seniors can renovate their homes with no upfront costs and sell for maximum profit.

Supporting Real Estate and Healthcare Professionals – Encore is positioned as an extension of healthcare providers and real estate professionals, ensuring that their clients receive top-tier service. By working with me, they can provide additional value to their clients, enhancing their own businesses as well.

Ultimately, Encore is built on the principles of dignity, efficiency, and financial empowerment, ensuring that seniors and their families have a trusted resource during one of life’s biggest transitions.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Born and raised in San Diego, CA, I’ve always had a deep connection to this community and a passion for helping people navigate some of life’s biggest transitions with confidence and dignity.

What Sets Me Apart
What makes my approach unique is the intersection of real estate, insurance, and healthcare. With 15 years of experience in the healthcare industry, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the challenges families face when making life-changing decisions—especially when it comes to housing, financial security, and protecting generational wealth. I don’t just help clients buy, sell, or protect homes—I provide a holistic approach to financial security, ensuring that their assets, their families, and their futures are protected. Whether it’s assisting a family in maximizing their home’s equity for a move or helping a senior transition into a new chapter of life, my goal is always to create a seamless, stress-free experience.

My Journey & Challenges
Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. Building a business, especially in highly competitive industries like real estate and insurance, requires resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to step outside of your comfort zone. Early on, I faced the challenge of proving my value in a crowded marketplace. I had to build trust, establish my reputation, and demonstrate that my approach truly puts clients first.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of relationships and integrity. My background in healthcare taught me that every decision impacts not just individuals but entire families. Success isn’t just about transactions—it’s about people. By focusing on service and truly listening to the needs of my clients, I’ve been able to grow my business in a way that feels both authentic and impactful.

What I Want the World to Know
At the core of everything I do is a commitment to dignity, respect, and service. Whether through Dignified Insurance Services or my real estate work with Compass, my mission is to help people make informed, empowered decisions that enhance their lives. My journey has been shaped by a desire to provide value, create meaningful connections, and ensure that every client feels supported—no matter where they are in life.
I’m incredibly excited about the future—especially with the launch of Compass Next My combined experience in real estate, healthcare, and insurance allows me to serve clients in a way that few others can.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting San Diego for a week, I’d make sure they experienced everything this city has to offer—stunning coastal views, incredible food, vibrant neighborhoods, and a mix of adventure and relaxation.
We’d start the trip with an epic brunch at Madi in Normal Heights, the brunch project by the owner of Madison on Park. Then head to Balboa Park, checking out the museums, and soaking in the beauty of the newly remodeled Botanical Building. From there, we’d hit Fernside in South Park for one of the best burgers in San Diego. Of course, we’d finish out the night over at Lou Lou’s in the Lafayette for some live music.

A trip to Coronado would be a must, biking around Hotel del Coronado, strolling along Silver Strand Beach, and grabbing a classic breakfast at Little Frenchie. we’d have dinner at Wormwood in Normal Heights/North Park and walk over to Anne’s Dry cleaning for some ice cream.

For some adventure, we’d hike Torrey Pines State Reserve in the morning. We’d keep it laid-back with a casual burger at the Friendly on 30th.

San Diego is the perfect mix of coastal charm, city energy, and outdoor adventure. Whether it’s beach days, incredible food, or breathtaking views, this itinerary would make for an unforgettable trip.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude to Todd Armstrong from Armstrong & Associates at Compass. Todd has been an invaluable resource, providing guidance, leadership, and mentorship that has helped shape my journey in real estate. His wealth of experience, support, and dedication have been instrumental in my growth, and I truly appreciate the insight and wisdom he has shared with me.

Additionally, I’m incredibly excited about Compass Plus, a groundbreaking initiative that Compass is in the process of launching. This dedicated group of professionals is committed to serving our aging population, helping them navigate the complexities of home transitions while ensuring they continue to find comfort, security, and purpose in their next chapter. Being part of a brokerage that prioritizes such meaningful work is both inspiring and reaffirming, and I’m honored to contribute to this mission.
