We had the good fortune of connecting with Pam Corbett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pam, how do you think about risk?
At the core, I’m a risk-taker. Although I’m not sure, people would guess that about me. I always weigh the outcomes first when I take risks, and I’m not afraid to fail. I think this philosophy has made me successful, especially in entrepreneurship. Starting a business is always a risk. There are so many unknowns and roadblocks. There are days you’re not sure you can make it. So really, surviving is a risk. But it can be well worth it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started Sea & Grass out of my garage and sold hand woven bags at local farmer’s markets. There were days I thought we wouldn’t make it. But through hard work and passion, I slowly grew the business by partnering with retailers and being featured in boutiques, hotels, and online marketplaces. But wanted to be more than a bag company. So, I combined my love for fashion with giving back by creating Areeya Scholarship Fund. We take some of the profits from Sea & Grass and help send impoverished Thai children to school. We made a commitment to providing sustainable products, paying fair wages, and helping those in need. Sea & Grass is a culmination of everything I believe in.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite place in San Diego would definitely be the beach. We are lucky enough to live close to Pacific Beach, so we always take friends and family there.

I’m also a big foodie, so we’d visit Din Tai Fung at UTC for its luscious xiao long bao. Or go local for a CaliBurrito at La Perla Cocina. But with kids, we’d probably hit the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park. And then, of course, back to the beach!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom is by far one of the most influential people in my life. She supports me in everything I do professionally and personally.
