We had the good fortune of connecting with Pam Corbett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pam, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Set an example to what a mom can do: change the world! Not only setting an example for hard work, dedication, and perseverance as a woman, but as an entrepreneur mom balancing it all! I started this business before I became a mom but always knew my purpose is to help the less fortunate kids I grew up next to in Thailand. I’ve always wanted to make an impact to improve my home country

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being an entrepreneur is not for everyone… but I always knew it would be for me! I was raised in an entrepreneurial family and the conversation has always been, “What successful business will you start?” Of course the first few were mostly for fun and experience, but I was always confident that I would find my passion as a small business owner. From Thailand, I went to business school in Australia, and then wanted to give it a try in California. Even though I had no idea what my unicorn idea would be, I continued avoiding “regular jobs” and pushed myself by helping other small businesses. Over a decade and several business attempts later, I hadn’t lost my dedication and finally started this company! Sea & Grass is now in year 8 and I am so grateful for my journey. What really sets us apart as a brand are also the reasons I am so passionate about the purpose of my business: quality products, supporting the less fortunate, making the world a better place, and doing something I love everyday!

Sea & Grass offers handwoven bags with purpose! We prevent agricultural pollution, repurposing a seagrass that grows rampant in Thai ravines and are typically burned as a pollutant. All of our products are handwoven by villagers in remote areas, providing fair wages and independent schedules where work is harder to find. We are sustainable fashion – offering customers quality products that make a positive impact! Most importantly is our brand mission of giving back! We believe that giving back to the community that weaves our bags makes the world a better place! Purchases help contribute to the education of children in need, as well as health funds and clean water to their villages.

Nature. Style. Purpose. SeaAndGrass.com

My heart and spirit are so full! Now I’ve been on my journey for over 20 years and my resilience and excitement for the future have never been stronger! Who knows what my long future has in store for me, but I have no doubt that I’ll still be working for myself and focused on making an impact!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you’re lucky enough to have a friend that lives in San Diego, you are a true winner! Having a personal, local tour guide in any city is the ultimate way to experience any destination! I’ve traveled and lived around the world, and I still pick San Diego as my favorite city to live in! San Diego has the best year-round weather. Your January day could be a walk along Sunset Cliffs, an authentic taco marathon, sailing the coastline down to Mexico, …or even a short drive to throw some snowballs.

San Diego is a huge city made up of lots of neighborhoods. I love that each area has its own personality and the people, businesses, and vibes match. First stop is Coronado, the manmade peninsula that’s home to the famous grand Victorian Hotel Del Coronado, perfect city views, picturesque beaches, and a fun cruise to pick out your favorite dream homes! We’ll grab a bike surrey and get the orange tap at Coronado Brew, then take the ferry across to the city before sunset. We’ll take pictures under the famous Gaslamp District sign, and point out The Shouthouse piano bar where we’ll end the night later. For dinner we’re going to Davanti Enoteca in Little Italy for the best Focaccia Di Recco on the planet! We’ll walk around enjoying the Little Italy piazza vibes, then we’ll stumble upon a bar with live music to dance it all off before we grab the best guilty pleasure ice cream at Salt & Straw. After this first day, you’ll be ready to beach all day and then we’ll discuss our endless San Diego options: the famous San Diego Zoo, golfing in Torrey Pines, night life with the locals in North Park, nosh in Hillcrest, the historical Balboa Park, smell the sea lions in La Jolla, baseball game at Petco Park, or even paragliding over the clothing-optional Blacks Beach!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As a female entrepreneur, the road was never straight! My path started on the other side of the world, where my family set the roots for my spirit to have a greater purpose. We were all raised helping our extended family’s multiple businesses, over a range of industries, including rubber tree farming, import/export, and textiles. The real champion in the success of the intricate coordination has always been my mom! It takes a special person to juggle multiple businesses: coordinating with multiple countries, alternating between languages, being the final QC, and still maintaining our home. She scoffs off any credit given, because she is an incredible self-aware person helping for the greater good of all! Without a doubt, The Shoutout goes to my mom for showing me how to be the Boss Mom I am today: driven for a greater purpose, passionate about my work, and resilient to a challenge!
