We had the good fortune of connecting with Octavia Bennett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Octavia, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Creative self-expression and being myself makes me the happiest. I have the ability to do both of those through writing. My poetry is me. I am my poetry. Naturally, we are one. It’s such a great feeling to take pieces of my authentic self, my story, and incorporate them into my work. I find comfort in knowing that people gravitate to my work because it’s so honest and raw. I love the fact that my supporters connect with my vulnerability. Because humans are the most beautiful when we’re open and true to ourselves, it makes me so happy to know that I am being supported for staying true to who I am while pouring my thoughts and feelings out through words. Another thing that makes me happy is helping people. I’ve decided to dedicate a piece of my life to help people through my writing. To find their truths, to find real healing. To pour into themselves and encourage them to open up, as well. It warms my heart when I get feedback from my supporters, saying that my work has helped them somehow. Whether it’s through my podcast, Tavi TIme, or my writing, it just reminds me that the work that I am doing is appreciated, and it’s making an impact. I want everyone to find real healing, and that is very apparent in my work. The fact that directly or even indirectly contribute to someone else’s growth makes me happy; it’s what keeps me motivated to create.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Octavia Bennett, also known as ‘Tavi”, is a prose poetry writer, and she does spoken word. She writes to help not only herself but to help and connect with other people. Most of her work is based on life experiences and healing. She writes about the things that she has been through, and she prides herself on the fact that she touches people by being authentic and raw, staying true to herself and her life story. Writing has taught her to let her guard down and open up to herself and other people about her life experiences. She’s found that when she is open and honest about herself and her life, other people feel comfortable doing the same thing. She’s discovered this beautiful connection with people through the writing community that she is so grateful for. Tavi is also the host of her own podcast, Tavi Time, where she discusses topics related to self-love and healing. She loves her podcast and feels as if it is an extension of her writing. It also allows her to connect with her audience more deeply. Follow her on Instagram and make sure to subscribe to her podcast to keep up with future content. @_octaviawrites @tavitimepodcast

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One thing that I feel like my close friends and I have in common is we love leisure. We all have very peaceful souls and don’t need to be in a rush to get anywhere. I’d say we’d spend a lot of time outdoors, at the beach or on a hike. Get some sunlight and fresh air and have deep, meaningful conversations. My friends are artsy, as well. We could have an at-home paint and sip or plan a fun little photoshoot while we embark on our adventures together. We also love food! Any restaurant that has healthy options and a good cocktail is the way to go.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a huge thank you to my supporters. For now, our little community is small, but it grows every single day. I write to find my own healing, but I also write to heal others, too. I love how connected I feel with my supporters. They feel me. They understand my mind and my feelings because I understand theirs, as well. It’s always been this feeling of mutual love and understanding with them. And for that, I am so grateful. So, to my supporters, thank you so much for going and growing through this journey with me. It’s been a hell of a ride so far, and like I always say, we’re all healing together. I could do it without you, but there’s nothing better than having a community to support you. Love, love, love you!
