We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikkita Randle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikkita, how do you think about risk?
Life is an accumulation of risks. One would like to think that for every action taken, they will know the catalyst thereafter. Unfortunately that is not true. I approach risk with logic, faith, and hope. I believe that this life we are granted is meant to be lived to the fullest. I would rather take a risk on myself than to place my hope and belief in another organization. One of the main reasons I left corporate America was because I did not like how someone else was running the organization. I realized that unless I took the chance on myself to run an organization the way I saw fit; complaining about someone else’s organization would be the plight of my life.

What should our readers know about your business?
Twisted Eggroll was birthed from a place of love, hope, and determination. I am extremely proud of my brand and the community being created around Twisted Eggroll. The journey has not been easy but it has been quite rewarding. Getting here was based on pieces of my story that eventually fit for the puzzle to be finished. My mom started me cooking at 5, I played organized sports, my father left corporate America to become an entrepreneur, I received my bachelor’s degree and M.BA. — all these pieces eventually come together to create Twisted Eggroll. I developed a love and great ability to cook, I learned team work because no one gets to greatness on their own, I found inspiration in watching my father pursue his dreams, and the education I received helps me manage my business effectively.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
OMG! One of the things I love doing most is entertaining loved ones and Chicago is such a great place to do it in. First, eating is always a priority to me being a foodie. Some Chicago staples are deep dish pizza, Italian beef, hot dogs etc. So we are definitely eating at Lou Malnati’s and Portillo’s. We would have to grab some Garrett’s popcorn and enjoy a walk on the Magnificent Mile. Riding a bike on the Lake Front helps you take in the best skyline while burning off those calories. Some unique things to do is to kayak on the Chicago River, check out the Obama’s Chicago residency, hit up historic places such as Willis Tower, Navy Pier, Soldier Field, the United Center, Museum District and dinner at a great steakhouse like Prime and Provisions. Although there are so many other suggestions, a visit would not be complete without some great live music at The Bassment and great food, drinks, and live jazz at Tortoise.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My father, Darnell Randle, who I lost to ALS in 2010. He was an entrepreneur and planted the seeds in me that are now blooming. I am grateful for his wisdom and belief in the light he saw in me before I even saw it myself.
