We had the good fortune of connecting with Niki Manoogian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Niki, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business, 79 Fine, was influenced by multiple factors: being an entrepreneur, a mom, and a jewelry enthusiast, as well as my background in corporate sales and marketing.
Having worked in corporate sales and marketing for 15 years, I gained valuable experience and insights into various industries. However, when I became a mom and decided to prioritize raising my two young sons, I knew it was time for a change. I wanted to create a business that aligned with my passions and allowed me the flexibility to be present for my family.
Throughout my career, I had the opportunity to live and work in cities renowned for their artistic and fashion influences, such as San Francisco and New York. These experiences exposed me to a vibrant fashion culture and made me appreciate the relationship between fashion, design, and the diverse definitions of beauty.
Upon moving to Southern California, I found myself searching for a destination where I could purchase custom, high-quality fine jewelry made from lab-grown diamonds and gemstones. To my surprise, I couldn’t find such a place. This realization highlighted a gap in the market, indicating a need for attractively priced fine jewelry created specifically for women, and this need became the foundation for 79 Fine.
I founded 79 Fine as a platform where women can discover and create exceptional fine jewelry that resonates with their lifestyles, whether they are moms, career professionals on a fast track, or somewhere in between. I wanted to create a destination where women could find beautifully crafted pieces that fuse timeless design with contemporary style.
Through 79 Fine, I aim to democratize the fine jewelry shopping experience and make it accessible to a wider audience. My collection consists of curated pieces that are selected to reflect the most coveted items in a modern woman’s fine jewelry wardrobe. Each piece is meant to be worn individually or layered and stacked with other rings, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings, allowing for personal expression and versatility.
One of the ways we make luxury jewelry within reach is by utilizing lab-grown diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds. This combination allows us to offer high-quality jewelry that is more affordable than traditionally mined gemstones while still maintaining exceptional beauty and craftsmanship.
Ultimately, the goal of 79 Fine is to provide women with the opportunity to celebrate their special moments or easily gift the next generation of jewelry lovers. I believe that luxury jewelry should be accessible and enjoyed by all.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I believe that luxury jewelry should be accessible and enjoyed by all. I take pride in providing clients with the opportunity to celebrate their special moments or gift the special people in their lives.
Fine jewelry holds sentimental value and can be a symbol of love, achievement, and personal expression. That’s why I strive to create pieces that are not only beautiful but also durable and timeless, ensuring they can be enjoyed for generations to come.
To get to where we are today, I leveraged my experience in sales and marketing and combined it with my passion for jewelry and creative expression. It was not an easy journey, however I believe that challenges are opportunities for growth and learning.
Overcoming the challenges involved staying true to my vision and maintaining a strong focus on providing exceptional quality and customer service. I’m dedicated to continuous improvement, from sourcing the finest materials to collaborating with skilled artisans who bring designs to life.
What I want the world to know about 79 Fine is that fine jewelry is accessible and can be enjoyed for generations. I aim to break the misconception that luxury is synonymous with exclusivity. The brand stands for inclusivity, offering a wide range of designs and price points without compromising on quality. I want everyone to experience the joy and significance that fine jewelry can bring to their lives. Whether it’s a personal treat or a meaningful gift, I am here to make luxury jewelry accessible and memorable for all.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting San Diego for a week, I would create an itinerary that’s a mix of family-friendly and personal favorites.
I’d definitely include a trip to some of the most scenic parts of our beautiful county, starting with a visit to La Jolla Cove and then a hike along Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve.
Next, we’d head downtown for a day at the famous San Diego Zoo (my kids LOVE the new “Basecamp” there) and then dinner at Bun & Patti – a fantastic spot in Litty Italy known for their gourmet burgers, craft drinks, and fantastic shakes!
We’d also take a stroll down Cedros Ave in Solana Beach to be inspired by the incredible home décor, and of course, a stop by the 79 Fine studio to checkout the latest and greatest fine jewelry creations!
Finally, we’d finish the trip in Carlsbad for a beautiful stroll on the beach followed by drinks at Campfire and then dinner at the famed Jeun et Jolie.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am grateful for the opportunity to recognize and acknowledge the individuals who have played a significant role in shaping my success with 79 Fine. Their efforts, support, mentorship, love, and encouragement have been invaluable.
Firstly, I owe a heartfelt appreciation to my husband for his unwavering encouragement, support, and enthusiasm. His unwavering support has given me the confidence to pursue my passions.
Secondly, my mom deserves immense recognition for her endless love, creative eye, and invaluable assistance with my two sons. Her unconditional support has allowed me to focus on my endeavors while knowing that my children are in the best care possible. Additionally, her creative perspective has provided valuable insights and fresh ideas, shaping my approach to various aspects of my work.
Lastly, I am indebted to the women in the jewelry profession who have offered me guidance, mentorship, and support. Their wisdom and expertise have been instrumental in my growth and development within the industry. From sharing their knowledge and experiences to providing constructive feedback, these women have played a vital role in shaping my skills and nurturing my passion for jewelry.
