We had the good fortune of connecting with Nika Forsythe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nika, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
As a suite owner and hairstylist . I would say all the different roles & skills we need to be successful. Number one is entrepreneurship and being able to think outside the box. Time Management/ Scheduling , Customer Service/Receptionist ,Computer Skills/ Marketing / Website Design, Accounting/ P&L/Taxes , Photographer / Social Media, Chemistry/ Hair Color , Geometry / Hair Cutting, Biology / Sanitation & Disinfection, Therapist/ Human Connection & Relationships, Student/Continued Education, Artist / Designer , Economics / Small Business Owner. All while standing all day for 8-12 hours a day, 5 days a week. Stylist also need to hold boundaries to make sure you make time for self care and stress management ( both mentally and physically ). Exercise, Stretching, Sleep, Diet, Massage, Chiro, Family, & taking care of our own beauty needs like Hair & Nails. I am not sure outsiders really consider all these aspects as a whole…

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe I am where I am today because I strive to always better myself and do not believe in giving up. . I truly believe in being teachable, humble, and paying it forward. Some of my most impactful moments have been through philanthropic work. I am honored to have been chosen to be a guest artist in Cambodia with Justice and Soul Foundation. Justice and Soul transform the lives of trafficked and at-risk young women and young men into confident and self-sufficient individuals via professional training in cosmetology.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In the summer , I would get up early spend the day at the Oceanside Harbor soaking up the sun and dipping in the water. Then I would ebike through Oceanside for a little shopping and a snack at the Shore Room. Then I would have a lovely dinner at my favorite family-owned, farm to table restaurant The Flying Pig in Oceanside, Ca. The food is amazing . Then to finish the night I would stop by Coomber Winery where they have live music every night and be home and in bed by 9pm. That sounds like a dream day in Sunny Oceanside California.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have had so many mentors on my journey over the past 21 years. I have two roles that need some about out!

First Nika as the educator. My shoutouts are to Tanja Weller ,Karri Lane Gutierrez , and Shonna Curtis for inspiring me to become an artist/educator with L’Oréal Professionnel. I would have never imagined the level of inspiration that this opportunity has brought to my career and life . I have had the most amazing and talented mentors. Travis Parker , Jeremy Taylor , and Jude from Travis Parker Academy in Solana Beach where I completed my advanced cutting certification. Anna Cecchi Smith who has been a huge mentored in styling ,editorial work, and marketing. Spiritually I could not do any of this without my development and spiritual team Adriana Serrano Diaz , Carlo Novoa ,and the Lady Cartel #girlgang.

Second , Nika as a North County Small Business Owner . My shoutouts are to my collaboration partners Crystal Larson Photography & Suki Bijoux I love being part of a team of woman owned small businesses where we continually love and support each other, not only in business , but in life as well.
