We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicholas Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Millennium Pension Services, Inc. is a Retirement Benefit Consultant Firm and Third Party Administrator. We Save Taxes For Our Clients. We specialize in income sheltering strategies for professionals and small to medium-sized businesses. We set up and administer qualified retirement plans for anyone in the private sector. Our motto is Collaborating with Professionals For Retirement Success, Financial Success, and Asset Protection.
What sets our firm apart from others is that we are a family business, and I am the second generation. In addition, all of our plans are custom designed based on the goals and objectives for each client. I am most proud of where our firm is and where it is going to be as I carry on and build the business.
It was not easy at first. When my mom first took the leap of faith in 2007 to start the firm, the recession followed shortly after. At the time, no one could afford to open and fund these types of plans. So she took a 2nd mortgage on the house, went all in, and persevered through this adversity. I was 12 when this happened, and I was able to learn that hard work and dedication – pays off, not sometimes but always and this motivated me to work hard and be the best version of myself. Seventeen years later, we are thankful for where we are today.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I would take them to my favorite spot in Southern California, Newport Beach. As a child, I have fond memories with my family and friends as every year, until I was 14, we rented an oceanfront beach house for 2 weeks on the peninsula on 23rd street, right across the street from Mutt Lynchs. We had the beach house for 4th of July weekend just about every year and it was always a great time.
I would take my friend on a drive around the peninsula and make a stop at The Wedge. It is a very famous surf spot known for its massive waves. Then, we would make our way down to Crystal Cove and hike in the park. After, we would grab lunch somewhere in Newport. I love sushi, so I would go to San Shi Go.
After lunch, we would probably take a drive up to Huntington Beach to the pier as well as Main Street. We would check out the locals, the performers on and around the pier, and then grab dinner. For dinner, I would take them to LSXO, a hidden speakeasy style restaurant in Pacific City.
I would then spend a day doing the L.A. Lifestyle: Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well as Venice and Santa Monica Beaches.
If they were open to it, I would take them down to San Diego, specifically Fisherman’s landing, and hop on one of the fishing boats. One of my passions is fishing, specifically tuna. I like to go on multi-day trips where we leave 9am one day and we don’t return until 3-4 days later at 9am. We eat, sleep, fish, and have a good time on the ocean for the duration of the trip.
While in San Diego, we would make a pit stop “Where the Surf Meets the Turf,” the Del Mar Racetrack, to watch the horses run. We would also take a trip to The Great Race Place, Santa Anita, located near my hometown of Pasadena, CA. My family has been in the industry for three generations and I have fond memories of going to Santa Anita and Del Mar with my grandparents, parents, and family. We would go around the backside to feed the racehorses and mingle with the jockeys and trainers. I was even Bar Mitzvahed at the racetrack.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would say my parents have had the biggest impact on where I am today, especially my mom, Tara Brown. Our firm is a family business, and the way she carries herself, her relentlessness, and her selflessness has motivated me to be where I am today and to carry on her legacy.
