We had the good fortune of connecting with Neda Ashoori Kerendian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Neda, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
The little things in life. A coffee, a pastry. Walks in the neighborhood and seeing all kinds of flowers in neighboring front yards. I find a lot of inspiration and light in the seemingly ordinary.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think so much of my path is mental. Overcoming mental roadblocks with art. I have a beautiful support system, but again mental roadblocks to receive that support. It’s not easy, probably in some ways harder than actual roadblocks because mental health is muddier and trickier to speak about.
But healing is possible and beautiful and I like to think my art is honest and real and comes from a place of just trying to find my footing in a fast paced world where there is so much expected of us all. My art helps me ground and I hope it helps others find it within themselves to ground too.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d introduce them to everything Persian. That’s where my parents are from. I’d take them to eat Persian ice cream, Persian foods, Persian teas. And then show them around all the beautiful botanical gardens or maybe even a simple park. Something outdoors with no fuss where we can have a picnic. Then we’d definitely see some art. Whatever museum or gallery is around and showing and open. Then ideally we’d end the night with good food and live music.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, my family. My mother’s lineage, my father’s lineage. There’s also so many other places to recognize, but mainly it’s family at the moment. My core home base. My heart and soul.
