Meet Naomi Ocampo | Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Naomi Ocampo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Naomi, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always needed a creative outlet to express myself throughout my life. I began drawing and painting at a young age and transitioned to modeling and fashion. When I was 5, I kept a little journal where I sketched dress designs. I quickly developed a love for modeling and editorial work after watching high fashion runways. The crazy, intricate looks on magazines spoke to me!
As a model, I feel inspired when I can help the vision of photographers, designers, or directors come to life. I never expected to jump into this career, but I loved it so much that I continued to put all my time into it. At the beginning of my career in high school, I started with creative shoots and freelance work. Once I got signed by a modeling agency my opportunities kept growing, and I was able to work doing something I loved.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I first began modeling, it was just for fun. I started shooting with photographer friends and quickly became passionate about the craft. I believe my background in art as a child has encouraged my creative journey as an adult. To me, modeling isn’t only smiling and posing- it is being dynamic and artistic! I want to inspire and evoke emotion.
In my earlier years of modeling, I met many people and was pushed into rooms with opportunities that exceeded my expectations. The friends I have made along the way that support me now made me appreciate the journey modeling has taken me on. While it has had its good times, it has not been easy. This career requires a lot of hard work and determination. When I began modeling professionally, the work took a toll on me. The days can be intense and taxing. I felt discouraged by the amount of rejection and judgment I faced. Rejection is the biggest thing I had to get used to, and I had to develop a thick skin to keep pushing through. I have grown immensely through the years. I am now confident as a model and in my day-to-day life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think the best part of my city is the views of the beach! I would take them out to eat at Toppers Pizza and drive them down the PCH to Malibu. All the beaches and hikes lining the highway are stunning, I for sure would spend at least a day in nature.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shout-out to my family! I wouldn’t be where I am today without their support. My parents never discouraged me from taking creative paths, and I am pushed to do something I love.
I also dedicate this shout-out to Juan Casiano and Germaine David. JP and Germaine own a photography studio called Lumetry Media in San Diego, and I was lucky enough to work with them for a couple of months. While many photographers I have worked with have a special place in my heart, JP and Germaine have inspired me to become the best version of myself. They believe in me even when I don’t believe in myself. I am grateful to have crossed paths with these two!
