We had the good fortune of connecting with Molly Standley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Molly, why did you pursue a creative career?
Initially Molly Moon Crafts started as something I did to help my mental health while going through a very difficult time. I was working two jobs and attending school full time dedicated to creating a better life for myself. Early in 2020 I found myself hospitalized with a failing liver and unable to find the source of what was causing my illness. For the next year I continued trying to jump back into my busy lifestyle hoping my body could keep up, but every time I would end up bed ridden again. One day my doctor asked me to please just stay home and rest, so before I headed home I stopped at the craft store and picked up supplies to start a new project that could keep me distracted. Arts & crafts have always been a sweet escape for me, so I figured I’d try making a batch of candles for some friends. I never thought that it would become my full time job. Quickly the community started buying my candles and was really just excited to have some extra grocery money! Within a few months my candles were in multiple stores and I got offered a hotel partnership. As my health restored, I found that I had been given an amazing opportunity to make crafting my new career!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We have a strong dedication to making eco friendly products that are not only a special experience for our customers, but helping the greater good of our planet. With scent being tied so close to memory, I try to create scent blends that will have an lasting impact on the individual. We are partnered with One Tree Planted, so with every jar purchased, we plant new life.

So far our most exciting project was working with Art Studios at Coachella Music Festival! We had the opportunity of creating a custom scent for the studio, and during the festival offering interactive aromatherapy workshops! This is where I found a passion for creating with the public. Scent is so specific to the individual, and helping people create exactly what they desire is such an amazing and fulfilling experience.

I got to where I am today professionally 100% from the love & support of my community! I felt extremely insecure about my brand in the beginning, but an amazing group of people believed in me until I could believe in myself.

One of the biggest lessons I have learned so far is that I have to have faith in the process. I have always loved creating, but I never had interest in the details of running a business. I felt so much fear as I began to grow because I was learning accounting, web design, photography, social media management, marketing, project management, & customer relations all at once! When I could give myself the grace and acceptance that I am simply learning, it all flowed so much easier!

Now that this is my full time job, I have such a big vision for the future of Molly Moon Crafts. I absolutely love creating and am looking to expand into a space where I can open up this creativity for others. My goal now is to grow and open a space for the community where we can host workshops, craft nights, and create a loving environment where creatives can connect!

It has all been one learning experience, and I am so excited to share the same love and support that other business owners showed me! I get to encourage others to pursue what they love, while sharing the tiny bit of knowledge I’ve gained so far on this journey.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In the Coachella Valley there are some great hidden gems! For breakfast definitely John’s or Keedy’s diner. An ideal fun day for me would be at the skatepark, which Palm Springs and La Quinta are pretty much my dream parks! Chef Tanya’s is my favorite restaurant to ever exist, and for shopping my go to is Peach Whiskers Goods & Dale’s Records.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Jen, the owner of Peach Whiskers for inspiring me since day 1!

My amazing friends who have been by my side cheering for me as I travel this crazy journey!

Matt my fiance for being there at my hardest times, and a total captain of setting up pop ups!
