Meet Mj | EFT Tapping & Breathwork Facilitator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mj and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MJ, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
During my Yoga Teacher Training, there was a small group of women that met three times a week. We discussed everything that was going on in our lives, we cried together, laughed together, and it opened me up immensely. I was also nervous to speak in groups, and especially nervous to cry in front of others, and this training broke me wide open. And this time together made me realize how powerful it can be when women come together and support one another.
Once the training was over, I realized that this was what I wanted to do – I wanted to bring women together to share, to listen, and to relate. So often, we have so much going on in our lives and we think that we are alone in that struggle. And it can be lonely and scary. So when you’re in a women’s circle and you hear other women going through the exact same thing, it makes you feel supported. And often times, it eases that burden and makes you able to LAUGH about it with someone else. It’s really a beautiful thing to experience and to witness.
And so my business now includes hosting cacao and women’s circles, breathwork classes, and EFT tapping containers. All a way to support women into owning up to their power and realizing just how incredible they are.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
This past year, I chose to really dive into starting a business. And it has been trail and error ever since, which is how I learn best.
One challenge I faced in the beginning was the fear of being seen on social media. It was really hard for me to even fathom creating videos and speaking on Instagram, or taking photos of myself and posting them. It was terrifying actually! So I used my own techniques and I did a ton of EFT Tapping to work through these fears. And ever since then, I have been able to post seamlessly and share my thoughts and ideas and have fun with it.
Another challenge for me was the fear of failure / fear of rejection. It was really hard for me to post about my offerings or my events because I was so afraid that no one would purchase tickets or show up. And I thought that if no one showed up, that was a reflection on me being a poor facilitator. And overtime I learned that it’s all about the failure – we need to fail in order to learn. And I have failed a lot! A lot of my events didn’t work out, I’ve been burnt out, I’ve had multiple series of websites, etc. And through all of these failures, I have been able to hone into what I really love and what really works for me (and what doesn’t).
And the biggest lesson I’ve had is that I’m not going to be a superstar overnight, and that’s okay. And that it takes time to build, to learn, to fail, to grow, and to scale up my business to be able to take on more and more.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, yes!
Maya Moon in Normal Heights is one of the best spots for yummy cup of cacao and some delicious snacks.
On Sundays, one of my favorite places to go is The Template in OB to watch Jesus Gonzalez (@amethystjesus) play because he is pure MAGIC. Followed by a walk along Sunset Cliffs. PS he has a show coming up in February that will be incredible!
One of my new favorite coffee spots is The Iconic Coffee Club in Bankers Hill because they make their syrups out of honey, so it’s a much healthier alternative. And Secret Sister in South Park (the quiche is pure insanity).
For dinner, I absolutely love The Rose Wine Bar in South Park (the burger, omg) and Wet Stone in Bankers Hill. And my pizza go-to is Sister’s Pizza in Hillcrest (and they serve by the slice!).
All of these places to be feel like magic. They have a family feel that you just can’t beat and I always leave feeling so full.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh man, where to start on the women that have inspired me!
Megan Caprice Alfaro is one of my biggest mentors in this life. She is one of the most powerful, witchy women that I know. During Yoga Teacher Training, she challenged all of us to think for ourselves instead of just taking what she said for truth. And she taught us to always teach/lead from an embodied place; meaning that we should be dedicated to the practice that we are offering. She continues to offer astrological insights into my life and lead the way on what it means to be a baddie entrepreneur. I would not be where I am today without her.
