We had the good fortune of connecting with Mindy King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mindy, how does your business help the community?
With climate change and the future of our planet in danger, the popularity of vintage has soared. Fast fashion, fast furniture and dollar store culture is creating a big mess and our landfills and oceans are floating in waste. Re-using and repurposing items made years ago out of quality materials that have stood the test of time, is the socially responsible thing to do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think the common thread to my success in many careers has been organization and willingness to learn new skills. I’ve worked in real estate, education (high school level), and the early days of tech, parlaying that experience to my own computer hardware business. One of the most interesting companies I owned, was a speaker’s bureau. We would pair a client’s meeting needs, with motivational or celebrity speakers. I researched and located talent specifically geared towards their meeting. then coordinating every aspect of getting them to the event. Creating the vintage market and watching it thrive is absolutely one of my proudest accomplishments. I have used all of my experience and then some to launch and grow this business. This community is amazing and I have business associates that are now family.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Places I love to take visitors….hiking in the canyons, Moorten’s Botanical Garden, PS Art Museum, Visiting hotel lobbies is a favorite…The Parker, The Rowan, Colony Palms, Villa Royale to name a few. The Palm Springs International Film Festival (January) and Modernism Week (February). These events bring visitors from all over the world offering a ton of activities, films, tours and parties to enjoy. The BNP Parabais tennis tournament (March) been dubbed the “fifth grand slam” and Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals (April) round out a fabulous season in the desert. Eating and drinking in Palm Springs is top notch…Bar Cecil, Counter Reformation, Workshop, Farm to name a few. Heading up to the high desert, Pioneertown, Pappy and Harrietts and Joshua Tree are not to be missed. And of course vintage shopping…Antique Galleries, Melody Note Vintage, The Frippery, Misty’s Consignments, ReX and all of the fabulous shops and galleries in Uptown. A week is just not enough to cover it all!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would not have the success we’ve seen without the vintage sellers. And also the entire Palm Springs community, from the City, to shop owners, to the folks who attend the show; all have embraced the event. The city’s tourist and media outlets have done an outstanding job in increasing visitors to the valley, all helping us grow to one of the finest markets in Southern California.
