Meet MindFox Escape | San Diego Escape Room

We had the good fortune of connecting with MindFox Escape and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MindFox, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
As with many business ventures, the unknown is a hurdle we must all overcome. For us, the escape room industry is such a niche market that we struggled to find resources to guide us in finding our footing. It was through our tenacity and passion for what we do that we were able to succeed in creating a business that we can be proud of. Our desire to constantly improve our escape rooms as well as our customer experience is what has helped us become successful. Whether it be by modifying a puzzle flow or adding improvements to the puzzles themselves, our top priority has always been to make sure our guests are engaged and having fun.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our business is family owned and operated. All four owners come from different professional backgrounds, but we believe this has been a key factor in our success. Since there is no “how-to manual” for creating an escape room business, we had to work together to bring our vision to life. For example, when we created a certain puzzle in Moriarty’s Manor, one of us drew the idea on a piece of paper then the other two worked on the build and technology within. Additionally, this puzzle had to be thoroughly tested to check for possible errors and if it was doable for all experience levels.
As owners, we are constantly learning and improving along the way. One important lesson we have learned is as long as we, ourselves, are happy with what we accomplished, our guests will feel that energy and excitement. So we try to drown out external noise and do “our own thing” so that we can put our best foot forward. Another lesson we have learned is the majority of our guests are new to escape rooms so we have to consider all experience levels when designing and building our rooms.
We believe our distinctive storytelling and attention to details are what sets us apart.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If our best friends were visiting, we’d probably start the week off with some tacos from Tacos El G in National City. The following day we’d have some breakfast at Morning Glory followed by a stroll around Waterfront Park. We’d cap the evening off with dinner at Island Prime. Once Wednesday rolls around we’d peruse the Little Italy Mercato. Dash over to do an escape room at MindFox Escape in Miramar and finish with Trivia Night and adult beverages at Alesmith.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our families are our biggest supporters and our driving force to be successful. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to feel confident in our choices and motivated to keep going when times get tough. In no particular order, we’d like to send our heartfelt gratitude to Rey and Connie Gonzales, Charles & Annaliza Bradley, and our fellow escape room owners who we’ve leaned on for support and guidance.
