Meet Mina Lynn Streeter | Entrepreneur & Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mina Lynn Streeter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mina Lynn, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from the small and beautiful island of Guam. A proud Pacific Islander and always will be. Growing up, I was a foster kid and never really had my parents in life. Growing up I felt I was dealt with a lot of adversity at a young age. From being homeless twice, physically, verbally and emotionally abused to the point where CPS had to be involved and a lot of childhood trauma has definitely affected my wellbeing till this day. However, all the events that have lead up to my present have definitely gave me the mindset and mentality I have now. I like to think that you can look at life two ways. You can use adversity as an excuse to live a “woe is me” lifestyle or you can use it as fuel to make your future even better than your past especially if you can’t fathom the alternative. I come from parents who have nothing to their name should they leave this earth so I’ve instilled a mentality where I’ve got to make something of myself in this life because I don’t have a choice. Growing up when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I never had a definite answer. While others chose “firefighter, police officer, teacher etc.” I always left that field blank. Looking back it, it all makes sense as to why I never knew. I simply paved my own way into the career I am in today.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have two businesses. My first business is an esthetics business @beautybossshop on Instagram and was established in 2018. I started off doing lash extensions and at the time I didn’t have a work space of my own. I had to go to my clients houses and lash on their bed or couches. It sounds funny, but looking back at it, I wouldn’t have changed where I started off. In the words of Oprah Winfrey, “do what you have to do, until you can do what you want to do.” If I may reword it, “do what you gotta do to get where you want to be.” The hardest part of my business was having to re-establish my business moving to the states. Being from the small island of Guam, there was never any competition in the lash industry as at the time, I was one of very few in my field of work. Moving to San Diego, was an entire different ball game as I had to pivot my marketing strategies on social media to gain clientele and introduce myself in a new area where there are so many esthetician’s in the industry. It’s definitely a dog eat dog world out here and if it’s one thing I know now, it would be starting a business back up from scratch in a new environment. Since being consistent on social media, I’ve gained quite the clientele rapidly in such a short period of time and I’m so grateful. Since then, I’ve also started a cosmetics business @anomaly.worldwide on Instagram and have come out with my own line of lash extension supplies to cater to lash artists worldwide.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I haven’t had the chance to explore San Diego as much but I did get the chance to go to a really cool bar with a bowling alley in it called Punch Bowl Social. I’d love to bring some of my friends from back home there for a fun night out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give recognition to my parents. Although they were not in my life as a child, I have established a good relationship with them in adulthood. If they’ve taught me one thing it is definitely strength. To be emotionally and mentally strong for yourself because at the end of the day when our time is done, you are all you really have. To be a fighter because depression does not define you and to be resilient. Fall 7 stand 8 as I like to say.
