We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Leigh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittney, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I used to work for corporate hair salons where you get paid an hourly rate, which is great for someone whose just starting out. However, it’s hard to build a clientele if you’re planning on working on your own one day because you are not able to bring those clients with you to a new location. So when Covid-19 hit and I had time to sit at home and think about my future, I realized I wanted to be on my own schedule, make my own prices, and finally become my own boss, but that included leaving behind clients I’ve built a friendship with and starting all over again. It also included buying my own materials while having little to no money at times and I’ve always been told “you need to spend money to make money”. I took some money from my last paycheck to buy Color bowls, brushes, combs, capes, etc. Then I did the same with my makeup company. I took what little money I had left after getting caught up with bills and used it to buy materials to make lipgloss and I plan on repeating that process to build my empire. Taking that risk was the scariest, but the best decision I’ve made.

I make vibrant color eyeshadows to wear for a night out, Nude lip gloss for your everyday wear, and Ultra-Matte lipstick that will lasts throughout your busy day. My brand ‘Witches Whisper’ focuses on helping individuals express their inner selves by going against the “normal” beauty standards. I have sold enough product to make a variety of cosmetics which has helped me expand my makeup supply. Making money without having a lot of it can be very challenging. I have learned to budget and be patient when it comes to growing a company and to use my skills in the beauty industry to build trust from customers as well as create unique shades of eyeshadows, lip gloss, and lipsticks. Hard work, dedication, and passion play a big role in motivating me to keep my business growing. While I spend a lot of my time building my brand, I’ve learned that in order to maintain a clear and peaceful mind, you must give yourself a rest and schedule time to take care of other obligations. Spend time outdoors, with family/friends, and away from your phone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ocean beach in San Diego is a great and affordable place to stay for vacation. OB Noodle House is everyone’s go to spot because of their amazing crispy egg noodles, delicious teriyaki bbq, variety of spirits, whiskey, and cocktails. Live music is a common thing in San Diego all the way from the beach to the inland areas. I enjoy checking out my favorite local outlaw country band ‘Whiskey State of Mind’ at numerous venues including BNS Brewery in Santee. San Diego is full of exciting people, fun places and good vibes all around!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my father Robert Weichelt for being an amazing mentor and motivator. My mother Carla Weichelt for being my hair model and letting me try new techniques on her hair since beauty school. My fiancé Matt Jensen for uplifting me when times were tough and helping me build my empire.
And lastly, all my friends and family who continue to support me along this journey.
