Meet Melissa Bernard | Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Bernard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, what are you inspired by?
My clients are my biggest inspiration, the fact that they trust me with their skin keeps me motivated to always stay on top of all the latest skincare treatments and trends, holding a wide array of certifications, so I am able to give them the best treatment to address their skincare needs .

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Starting a business two weeks out of school , with no knowledge on how to run a business was tricky. Although I had a mentor , there were a lot of lessons that I had to learn along the way, and I continue to learn as I go. But my passion for making others feel confident and good about themselves is what keeps me striving. After 4 years of running my business in New Mexico, I decided to relocate to San Diego. Stepping into a competitive industry in such an expensive city was a little scary, but I knew in my heart that everything was going to work out. Being a single women , who lives alone and pays not only one rent but two and having to be completely dependent on my business, is what kept me working hard to afford a San Diego lifestyle. What sets me apart from other businesses, I would have to say is my technique. I have a background in massage therapy, and I also practice spiritual healing , which I like to incorporate into my facial services. Creating a safe space , igniting positive and peaceful energy. I am constantly furthering my education , as I take pride in holding many certifications. Being that I am in my 50s, I like to stay on top of all the latest anti aging treatments out there. I offer Micro Channeling which is the latest generation of Micro Needling, Radio Frequency, a wide array of chemical peels and facials, hydro facial, microdermabrasion, and oxygen infusion.
I have built an Amazing clientele and continue grow through spa Finder, occasional Groupon deals, e-mail blasts and referrals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite places to take guests who visit San Diego would be Torrey Pines, Tom Hams Lighthouses, the water ferry to Coronado island, Peohe’s restaurant, Seaport village and Old Town

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to Athena of Le Reve Skincare. She is the reason for where I am at today. Not only did she talk me into going to school for Esthetics, but she also mentored me on starting a business and building a clientele. I will always be forever grateful.
