We had the good fortune of connecting with Melisa Ford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melisa, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
As a female empowerment photographer, my business helps women in my local community and online, whether they walk through my studio for a session or they follow me online. Most women who book a boudoir session with me are doing so just for them. Some for a gift, but the underlying sentiment of boudoir is that the session is for them. The women that follow me online get a constant stream of uplifting female empowerment energy.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is mostly about the individuality of each of my clients, and her unique female body, and what she embodies. Each of my sessions are different and focused on the individual and her needs and desires. Some women want sensual and creative, while others want seductive and spicy. Everyone is different, so my art takes me to different places every time. It’s never boring!
I believe what sets me apart from others is the overall experience I give my clients. Each one is special, and I believe they really feel that.
After 20+ years of being a professional photographer, I can’t imagine doing anything else. There have definitely been struggles along the way. Finding my passion took a long time. Learning to say no to the things that did not bring me joy, has been a huge lesson.
I’d love my legacy about my story to be that I helped women truly see just how beautiful they really are.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite area to take out of town guests to is definitely the Temecula Wine Country. The scenery, the amazing wine, and fantastic food can’t be beat. With all the great places to stay there, it could be a great weekend getaway spot, and a trip to downtown Temecula would also be on the agenda. I feel like there’s something for everyone there!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom. She was always the source of never-ending encouragement. A beautiful woman herself, I remember as a child seeing gorgeous images of her in her 20’s and thinking how beautiful she was/ is. I still think about those black and white photos, and the strong empowered woman portrayed in them.
