We had the good fortune of connecting with Mauricio Navarro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mauricio, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I realize that every business needs a video for their social media, I am providing a necessary and in demand service on an incredibly lucrative field. After learning about filmmaking and storytelling and video editing, had directed some short films and had great reception from audiences, I really wanted to start my own business as a freelance videographer with professional gear and building up my reputation.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I was 11 years old, I auditioned for an art school that had classical guitar music classes. After a couple of years, I had got my first bass guitar and when I was 13, I was learning to play by ear mostly and self-taught. My school had a range of different fields of arts, including theatre, paint, dance. Also having a recognition for literature at school I started writing stories that I would imagine, or dreams I had remembered. After graduating from high school, I realized how films are a mix of all the arts, and you can make a film out of anything, any idea could be a movie. This has given me a entire universe of possibilities for me to make an art piece.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I like to visit parks around in San Diego, including Julian and Cuyamaca Lake, and of course there is beautiful beaches, especially in La Joya cove it is wonderful to see the seals and sealions hanging out and barking around. I love that San Diego has so many great hiking trails and definitely would go over a bunch of them hidden in this city, including Chollas Lake, Lake Murray, Sweetwater reservoir, Santee Lakes, Lindo Lake.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Ishmael Meza from Cimitoro Productions for introducing me, also to David Kamatoy, Tony Amat, a special shoutout to Shelley Jesso.
