We had the good fortune of connecting with Mattia Amoroso and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mattia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Without risk, life would be boring. Taking a chance on a person, hobby, career, lifestyle, can challenge you to learn and feel so much. I used to be a shy person that would stay in my lane, I was afraid to talk to people and do something that I could potentially fail at. Once I changed my mindset on taking risks I started to meet new people, learn new things, I saw my dreams as a possibility. Without risk, I would be missing out on so much in life and in succeeding in my dreams. Risk is important, even though there may be a possibility that you can fail you will learn through that failure, but along with the possibility of failure, there is a possibility of success so it’s always best to take the chance rather than miss it altogether.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a photographer. I have tried every type of photography but my favorite is definitely taking photographs of people. I believe that there is so much creativity that can come with it. I like to focus on interesting and dynamic poses along with what the model is wearing and how they can interact with the location. I am moving towards more conceptual shoots where I use props. Having models interact with props might be my favorite, there are so many more weird but interesting poses and facial features that can be implemented when adding props. I have been very big on juxtaposition when it comes to my photography. I love having my models wear clothes that you wouldn’t usually see in the location that they’re in. When it comes to photography I believe that a big part of it comes with connections. I love meeting and learning about new people therefore I am always trying to meet and learn about new people. The biggest challenge I have is comparing myself to other great photographers. There are days where I see other photographers create something amazing and then I look down on my photos. I overcame this challenge and mindset by reminding myself that I am not trying to be someone else, I am creating my photos because I like them and that I am improving after every shoot. Now when I look at other people’s work, instead of my first thought being that I will never compare to them I appreciate their passion and creativity. I want people to know that I will be successful in this field, I will always continue to push myself and be confident in my work while also pushing others to follow what they are passionate about.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am from San Diego, California. The main attraction would definitely be the many Encinitas beaches. Beacons, Grandview, Moonlight are all great choices. I would want to show the diversity of landscapes so a couple of hikes are a must, Calavera, Torrey Pines, Dixon lake. Along with the diversity of landscapes, there are all the different types of food. We obviously have great Mexican food (Robertos, Cotixan, Vallarta Express), then there is the famous In-n-out with the best fast burgers, and how could you go wrong with Italian (Amalfi, Vigiluccis, Buona Forchetta). Then there is Little Italy and downtown San Diego with the best nightlife. Along with Balboa park with some great museums.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be following my dreams without the help of my parents, friends, and Annalisa Johnson. My parents and my friends have supported me through my whole journey of pursuing photography. Pursuing a dream as an artist/creator, most people have their doubts on whether one can make a living on it and stray away from that dream. My family and friends have never let me believe that for a second and have pushed me to believe the exact opposite. They saw that I wasn’t pursuing my passion for money but the joy it gave me. Annalisa Johnson is my photographer friend that has taught me so much about how to make it a business. She is always there to answer my questions in great detail while also believing in me. Without these people’s support, I don’t know where I would be.
