We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Alward and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matt, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It’s freeing and rewarding
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Absolute Guy podcast, was started out of a dream, and I wanted to talk about topics. I’m passionate about with other people from around the world that have similar interests. It all came about while I was listening to an episode of SmodCast we’re Kevin Smith was talking about podcasting, and how easy podcast was and how it’s a great medium for anyone looking to explore artistic freedom. So together with a few of my buddies, we launched absolute geek podcast seven years ago. It’s been a fun and enjoyable ride, but not easy by any means. It has been fun being able to bring our brand of humor, mixed with our knowledge in love for comics and pop culture, but also having an unknown effect on people’s lives. I’ve learned a lot of lessons along the way, such as effectively using social media, engagement with the listeners and trying to be as creative as possible and put out the best product we can each and every week. Podcasting has changed my life in many ways, not so much financially but it was a big drive to opening up doors and relationships with people that started out as listeners. That one thing that sets us apart from the thousands of other comic and pop culture podcasts out, there is that we don’t refer to our listeners as fans. A lot of listeners of ours have found our ability to make you feel like you’re sitting in a room with your buddies having a conversation inviting enough to reach out to us, and interact with us on a daily basis to the point where they become more like friends and not listeners. Podcasting can be financially rewarding, but I think the real asset in it is the connections you make and the people it can bring into you’re life, and in a lot of ways that’s more important than the almighty dollar.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Director Kevin Smith- for being the voice to encourage me to go out and make art orally.
