We had the good fortune of connecting with Marvin Beltran and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marvin, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks will always be something hard that one has to do. A lot of people are scared to take risks because of judgement and or failure. I’ve taken many risks in my life and career, i can honestly say ive gotten more positive than negative out of it! I dont think i would be where i am today if i didnt take all the risks i have taken in my life. My advice to people who are reading this would be to take all the risks you can because if u dont then you never know what it will lead you to down the line and dont be sacred to fail! Failure is important, know why you failed and correct it so it doesn’t happen again and last but not least, learn from yours and other peoples failures, learn what they did wrong instead of focusing on what they did right.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart from others is my passion for photography and videography. I honestly can say that i love what i do and i always strive to become better at my craft. Im most proud of VVS Media Group, a media company that my friend Kenneth and I started late last year. We have grown so fast as a company and we are currently working with some influencers on launching a TV series called Brothers. Getting to where i am today was definitely not easy but i also think it was easier than others because of the network that i have, i am truly blessed to have many talented and intelligent friends who have helped me jump start my career in photography and videography. I’ve learned many lessons along the way but the most important lessons ive learned are dont be afraid to take risks, dont be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and to focus on my own craft, dont be distracted by what others around you are doing because everyone has their own vision. I want everyone to really take in what i have to say because i feel like it is key to keeping yourself motivated and to also be successful in whatever your passion in life is.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Places to eat: PB Poke House, Halo Halo, Tacos el Gordo, Famous Waffle Sandwich, Min Sok, Island Prime, Fogo De Chow, and Herringbone.
Drink: Omnia, Bang Bang. and El Prez
Visit and hang out: La Jolla Caves, Seaport Village, Pacific Beach, Belmont Park, Mission Beach
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First i’d like to thank my girlfriend Ira for being so supportive of me and for always believing in me when i didnt believe in myself. Id also like to thank my friend Kenneth for helping me learn videography and for helping me get back on my feet when i was down. Last but not least id like to thank God for blessing me with the talent and strength to become who i am today.
