Meet Marsha & Ersin Kaya | Husband & Wife Duo Bakers

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marsha & Ersin Kaya and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marsha & Ersin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It was the first year of the pandemic my husband got laid off My hours were reduced and It was just a thought to sell only Olive Oil cakes to bring in extra income since our recipe is unique and not
Like others olive oil cakes. We were hesitant didn’t even know where to begin and weren’t even sure if it would kick off. My daughter is the one I need to give credit to for pushing us and created our account and recommend pushing our Olive cake and the overwhelming support we received was a wow moment for us.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The thought of baking and running a business with my husband I knew there was going to be challenges. I’ve always had a passion for baking. I would baked for my children and friends b-day cakes. Baking was a way to relieve stress for me.
My husband on the other hand had no experience at all, Ersin has never baked or even decorated a cake in his life,
so by watching YouTube videos googling how to decorate cakes at a blink of an eye he mastered decorating on the first try.
My husband is definitely an awesome cook with 16 plus years of kitchen experience, so we hope some day to expand and open up a store front offering our desserts and his amazing dishes.
Husband and wife in the kitchen was a struggle at the beginning in the kitchen we Clashed quite a bit ok probably a lot.
As a couple sharing the kitchen .You have to learn how to compromise as well . My role was to bake, his was to decorator.
I learned to let my husband do his thing and try not to control everything. I also learned when baking to give my undivided attention. I had to toss many cakes in a single day because I realized after the fact I forgot an ingredient when you see those eggs or milk sitting on the counter. so there has been some tearful days. I learned the hard way to be more
Patient and not multi task when baking and to do one things at a time.
Making sure we pay attention to detail. We only use the finest ingredients we don’t cut corners. All of our cakes are 100% made from
Scratch and made to order. We also only use seasonal fruit. We branched out from cakes to cookies and added our number one seller Banana pudding.
We don’t want to just bake you a cake we want that cake to be as perfect as possible. We want every cake on your table to be a positive memorable experience. We love the fact that many of our customers trust us to just create their cake.
We both work full time and and we still master being able to run our Business and work without any compromises.
Our day starts around 6am ends around midnight on a daily basis so you learn your strength pretty fast. Not to mention if we are attending an event that weekend aside from the orders to fill for the week but also plan a menu for what we will bake for the event. We average just in pudding approximately 150-200 on an event weekend. so we have our hands full. We are passionate about what we do.
Also running social media takes a lot of time and sometimes we get so busy we don’t have time to takes pictures, trying to do better in this area.. Also respecting one another responsibilities in the kitchen is key.
We are both perfectionist, he is more than I. Ersin, will say deliver a product you would expect to receive and know you did the best you could have done and if it’s not then you start all over because we want a brand that’s respected for what we deliver.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Upon arrival I would ask if they had any specific things they had in mind for the week. First Night would let them unwind relax from a long flight have a wine night invited a couple friends over to catch up. And definitely have them taste our olive oil cake and banana pudding a must for all our guest who come
