Meet Marlon Mansour | President

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marlon Mansour and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marlon, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
The Neighborhood Market Association is a non-profit organization comprised of many small businesses as members. We help support and advocate for our members, who comprise the fabric of our country, many of which are immigrants who’ve come to this country, made a living, helped create jobs, and provided a great service to their communities.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve recently come on as President of the Neighborhood Market Association (NMA). The NMA is a non-profit organization focused on providing services to our numerous small business owner members to ensure their success. This includes providing information on compliance with various laws and regulations and helping advocate in legislation that affects our members.
Before this, I worked for the past 2 years as a Deputy City Attorney at the San Diego City Attorney’s Office, helping prosecute Domestic Violence crimes. I made the shift to the NMA because I’m most excited to continue its long-standing vision, focused on empowering family-owned businesses to succeed. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and an opportunity for anyone who comes the the United States to try and prosper. Small businesses are the engine drivers for creating jobs and and economic growth.
My journey here was quite unique: going through law school and practicing as an attorney in criminal law for a few years before shifting into this work. The main lessons I’ve learned is to always be diligent in both what you do and your passions. If you are passionate about what you do and what you want to do, you’ll find a way to succeed and be happy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many great places throughout San Diego. Here are just a few that came to mind:
Little Italy: for all the great restaurants, markets, and sights.
La Jolla Shores/La Jolla Cove Seals: absolutely breathtaking to go to at sunset/night
Liberty Station Public Market: Nice public market filled with various food and mini markets
Coronado: for the history, bridge, historic Hotel Del Coronado, and the stunning views

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My late father, Muayad Oram Mansour, was a huge influence on my life in so many ways. With respect to the work I now do at the Neighborhood Market Association (NMA), I would not have been involved or been interested in without his involvement with the organization in its early stages in the 90’s. I grew up around the NMA and got to learn the great work this organization could do and the role it can play in helping small businesses succeed.
