Hi Marlette, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I started this business, my brother, husband, and I made a pact that running the business would not disrupt our current lifestyle and family dynamics. It’s important for us to carefully balance business and family. To us, this means allowing the business to naturally mature at a pace we are comfortable with. We value consistency and quality time with our families. The truth is, family comes first. We hope to develop this passion so that we can share it with our young ones and create a foundation for their success. We’re not aiming to expand so rapidly that we’re unable to maintain the demand and uphold our commitment to delivering an exceptional product consistently. We KNOW quality and value will keep people coming back for more.

What should our readers know about your business?
We craft unique, small-batch roasted whole bean coffee tailored for you — from our home to yours. What sets us apart is the intimacy of our customers’ experience. As a micro-roastery each batch of coffee is roasted for you. It is customized exactly at the roast level you prefer. The roasting parameters are constantly changing and therefore our roasting recipes adapt to the environment and beans. By focusing on exceptional quality beans, precision roasting using a high-end electric roaster, and a roast-to-order process, we’re able to deliver an unmatched coffee experience.

I’m all about building a community of avid coffee lovers who are not just in it for good coffee but to elevate the coffee experience of others through knowledge sharing and positive vibes. Coffee is what gets some people up every morning, so why should it be ordinary? Why should coffee enjoyment not be celebrated with others?

I’ve learned that a company is only as good as the community it serves. This is why I’m excited for the chance to be involved in local community initiatives and learn about the people that support my small business. Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It‘s ironic to see this question as I will be hosting my friend from out-of-state in a few weeks! Our family decided to move to SoCal because of all the countless memories we knew we would create here. If you want to get the most out of your first visit to San Diego, I highly recommend the City Pass. There are so many great theme parks and recreational activities to enjoy: San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, SeaWorld, Balboa Park, Legoland… the list goes on. Our favorite beach is Mission Beach because there is a boardwalk and amusement park! I can’t fully answer this question without calling out some of my favorite local hotspots here in Escondido. When you visit, be sure to stop at Burger Bench for the best burgers. Stone Brewing is just around the corner and is a must-visit for IPA enthusiasts.

Shout out to the Marlette’s Coffee Lounge Facebook group! My husband and I are fortunate to be part of a growing community of friends and family that have supported us for years all the way back to when this was only just a pipe dream. They have been by our side watching us evolve. Once we decided to make this a business, our community jumped right in to help encourage us and promote the truly special craft we’ve developed. This, of course, is only the start of our journey and we’re glad to share it with each and every one of our supporters. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts!
