Meet Mariam John

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariam John and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mariam, how do you think about risk?
I love risk. If you don’t take many risks, you’re stuck at square one. The biggest risk I’ve taken is traveling alone. i found it frustrating whenever I had to plan trips around other people. I remember booking a solo trip to Europe alone, and it was a one way ticket two weeks before I decided to leave. I traveled 6 countries out there using public transportation including the metro, bus, plane, and train. Of course I was scared at times, but what helps is planning an escape route no matter where I am, in case things go south. I’ve also traveled to other states within the US without others. Doing all of this, has opened my eyes to the world. I’ve sat back and people watched, experiencing different ways of communicating and body language. All these experiences have shaped my personality and I into the person I am today.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m proud of participating in modeling gigs and YouTube videos whether they be interviews or music videos. Getting to my position today honestly hasn’t been very difficult. When I say that, I mean I’m a first generation daughter who had no choice but to figure it out on her own. I just do it. Along the way, I’ve learned that nothing is impossible. Anything is possible if you put time into it. I’ve never taken no for an answer and I’ve completed everything I said I would.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had friends visiting, I would take them to a beach a day to experience the different little beach towns we have. By beach towns I mean Coronado, Mission Beach, La Jolla, places like that. Oh and with a board and brew sandwich of course. My favorite breakfast restaurant experience by far is Morning Glory and that cannot be missed. If you don’t know what food you’re feeling and get hangry like I do, I would go to Sky Deck in Del Mar Highlands or Seaport Village. They got something for everybody in there. If you want to enjoy an amazing view of the city while having a picnic, Kate O Sessions park is the spot.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my parents for always allowing me the freedom to decide what I choose to do with my time. Growing up, they have supported me in every decision that I’ve made; including the time I told them I’m going on a one way trip to Europe in two weeks. Another shoutout to the friends who never made the trip out of the group chat, because I took care of that issue on my own. And last but not least, the photographers I’ve worked with over time to bring visions to life.
