We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariah Wyatt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mariah, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Confidence breeds beauty”. It’s a simple concept but it has much meaning, I’ve always made sure to stick to this thought. Once I started to embrace my confidence, I felt more beautiful. Being confident and loving yourself is what ultimately makes us beautiful.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love having the platform to be able to inspire. Rather it be a few people or many people, Making any type of difference in someone’s life still means the most to me. It makes me happy when others share their personal stories with me about how I’ve inspired or encouraged them. Society teaches us that appearance is most important, when we should be taught that our values, actions, and self-love are most important. Experiencing adversities throughout this journey became lessons learned and has given me a new mindset on many things. We must always remember that being confident, creating our own standards of beauty, remembering that beauty comes in ALL forms and sizes, and loving ourselves first are important.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are so lucky in San Diego! We have such a variety of places to chose from! I love scenic views and finding places to take photos, Sunset Cliffs has such a beautiful view. Breakfast Bitch is great for Breakfast, and since I love Chicken and Waffles, I’ll stop by Streetcar Merchants. Surf & Soul Spot and Suckerfree are also among my favorite eateries. For drinks, The Lion Share, they offer a great cocktail menu and atmosphere. I love collecting vintage items, I come across good finds at the thrift stores in Hillcrest. I always find good deals at Kobey’s Swapmeet. One of my favorite vendors to purchase from is theGiftedMen; this vendor sells Men Accessories (Socks,Ties,Pocket squares) and for each item sold they make a donation to the homeless. Aside from scenic views, I love sightseeing and finding local events and activities . Old Town, Balboa Park, Gaslamp/Downtown, are great places for this.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Being on this journey hasn’t always been easy. Everyone has flaws; it’s natural. But when it comes to being a woman and our bodies, people seem to be much more open to voicing their criticism. I am happy to be surrounded by so many people who inspire, support, and encourage me. I feel like it’s so cliché to always “Shoutout” our parents, but my mom truly deserves it. Starting from when I was a young girl, my mom has hosted women empowerment meetings. My mom continues these meetings and I still join them. These meetings have taught me that Self-Love comes first and have helped shape me into the woman I’ve become. Marilyn Monroe has always inspired me because she shows that Beauty comes in all forms and all sizes and that being confident is what matters most. I am also influenced by Angela Davis; she has never been shy about voicing her beliefs on gender equality and has been advocating for women’s rights since before I was even born.
