We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Rodriguez Steve Reyna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria Rodriguez, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We started this company during the pandemic. We both lost our jobs due to covid, and so we decided to create something that not only could sustain our living situation but keep us motivated during these hard times.

One day browsing through youtube we stumbled upon a video of a lady making poffertjes in the streets of London, we both instantly fell in love with the mini pancakes and thought it would be a good idea bringing that concept to L.A / OC .

We immediately got to work and in about a month we created our own home made pancake recipe from scratch.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We both come from successful careers in Sales. Aside from our careers Steve has played music all of his life and Maria has loved fashion since she can remember. We both never thought we would become bakers. It wasn’t easy going into a different field , learning everything from “0”. However we never gave up even during tough moments , at some point we got our generator stolen, our trucks engine blew up , Steve’s finger got fracture from loading an object, there has been days where we would only make $40 dollars a night. So many things and mistakes happened along the way nevertheless we knew those mistakes were learning lessons. We threw ourselves to the water and managed to swim.

But these hard times pushed us and made us seek for better opportunities elsewhere.

From doing our regular pop – up in the streets of Echo Park to then starting to do events , night markets and later Music Festivals. We believe uncomfortable moments make tough people.

Most importantly we take pride in our original pancake batter. We have been recognized by so many customers because of it. We are fortunate and blessed to have been able to create a product that people love and can recognize as authentic.

We also just launch our Vegan batter and are happy to announce that we are the very first Vegan Mini Pancakes in all of SoCal.

We bring our professional and personal experience to our company. We love getting creative and creating new ideas, plates, and always looking to be original. Every plate we make we make it with love and with the notion to be different.

We are both latinos , Mexican & Cuban. We love what we do, we set ourselves apart because of our original pancake mix from scratch. We are always working behind closed doors. We never gave up even during hard times, even when people didn’t believe in us and doubted us, we always believed in ourselves. We now have our whole 2022 calendar booked for many events including music festivals, 3 day Food Festivals , catering and many more. We are beyond blessed. And we are just getting started.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We couldn’t have done this without the help and support of so many friends and family. Janeth, Daniela, Lourdes, Oscar, Alan, Samantha, Itzel, Felipe, Geovani, Luis, Angel City Market for giving us the opportunity and the chance to grow along with them, Tianguis Market (Nico) for helping us with our first TFF. The Hawaii Honey Cone team for advising us and supporting us along the way.
