Meet Maria Rodrigues | Co-Founder of Bella Bridal LLC/MUA

We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Rodrigues and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting a business as a makeup artist often involves a combination of passion for makeup, creativity, skill, and a desire for independence and entrepreneurship. I feel inspired to share my talent with others, pursue my artistic vision, and create a career that allows me to express my creativity while also providing a valuable service to clients. Also, the flexibility in scheduling, the opportunity to work in various settings such as weddings, fashion shows, or film sets truly drives me to keep going. Ultimately, starting a business allowed me turn my passion for makeup into a fulfilling career that also allows me to create generational wealth and one day, pass it down to my children.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Starting a business has not been easy. Especially when there’s millions of amazing artists already doing it! As a makeup artist, I prioritize listening to my clients and understanding their preferences, limits, and expectations. I strive to create a welcoming environment where clients feel at home and comfortable expressing their needs and desires. Throughout my journey in starting my business, one of the most challenging aspects was initially building a clientele. However, through dedication and hard work, I’ve been able to grow from doing makeup in my room with just one chair and a ring light for proms to being booked solid throughout wedding seasons, even catering to entire bridal parties.
What sets me apart in this amazing industry is my commitment to providing exceptional service, fueled by my passion, energy, and determination. I believe in setting the standard by delivering top-notch content and experiences that exceed my clients’ expectations, ultimately setting the tone for excellence in my field.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would have to say, El Pulpo in Middletown has been the best place to take family and friends coming from out of state. Their service is exceptional, the food is mouth watering and the music is everything! They have a variety of different Mediterranean foods! The atmosphere is just so welcoming. Especially on a summer night when the breeze is just right! I love to sit outside where you’re surrounded by decorative outdoor lighting, good music and a plate of Mix Paella with a glass of Pinot Grigio of course! Don’t get me started on the crab cakes!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Amelia’s (my business partner and family ant this point) unwavering support and encouragement since high school have been instrumental in motivating me to pursue my artistry as a makeup artist. Her belief in my talent and passion likely provided the initial push I needed to take my skills to the next level. Amelia’s consistent encouragement, feedback, and even collaboration have helped solidify my confidence and determination to pursue my dreams in the field of makeup artistry. Along with the support from friends and family, my grandmother always said the sky’s the limit. Being first generation to graduate was an accomplishment, but being a business owner as well? I know I can keep going as long as I have them by my side.
