We had the good fortune of connecting with Margaux Rodrigues and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Margaux, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The two main thoughts who led me starting my own business were passion and freedom. I am a passionate, obsessional person since childhood and I couldn’t conceive to have one job but something I was passionate about, and photography is above all the things that make me vibrate. Freedom is something that directly relies on passion so there was no discussion, to be a photographer and lives of my passion, I had to be freelance.
This kind of life, although insecure, is exciting because I can dedicate entirely to my art and have time to travel, which is another of my passions.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
First, I have to say that is hard to tell what can set ourself apart from others because there is many artists and many talented ones. If I could quote one of my favorite artists, he said “I feel there is nothing more truly artistic than love people”. If you add Nature you have a resume of what I am. I love life, people and nature. When you disregard my grumpy statements (I am a true French person) you can have a grasp of what I really am. And I think that is one thing you can see through my images : Love.

I am proud of my work, mostly personal (Nymphea, Aves, and Âme Vagabonde yet to come series) and what I’ve done for Musical artists such as Liv Warfield, Stokley Williams, Deborah Leclercq and Leah. I like the idea of mixing my vision with another one’s and to work with music.

Âme Vagabonde includes photography, video and music. We work together with my wonderful man Jay Murphy and it fulfill my heart to be able to do that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would make them visit Paris for 3 or 4 days. Taking the red tourists bus to have a big picture and learn some History of it. Indeed Paris has a rich and fascinating History ! Then we would stop to Rue Sainte Anne, to eat Japanese food (some Okonomiyaki or Katsudon) and spend the rest of day at the Louvre Museum (Egyptian, Persian and Flemish paintings wings). We would end the afternoon at Tomo tea house, with a hot chocolate and a French-japanese pastry. Then we would attend to a funk concert at the New Morning (Gréements de Fortune or Malka Family band would be perfect). I would also show them the big attractions such as Notre-Dame de Paris, The Eiffel Tower and the Opera Garnier, and more discreet places like my neighborhood la Butte aux Cailles.

As for the other days, I would bring them to Fontainebleau to trek in the beautiful Forest and visit the country side with all the lovely villages, fields and old buildings that make this region so charming.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many People who deserve much more than a little credit and recognition in my story. Beginning with my mother, Pi and my sister, Chloé that are my all since the very first second of my life. My love, Jay Murphy who is the best man and partner I wish everybody should have. My father who I love. And all my beautiful family and friends who I also work with, Joanna Faivre, Lauryn Samama, Mahélia Hugel, Colombe Clier, Laurène Calvez, Olimpia Montessuit, Fred Turban, Raphael Melki and Sarah Benlolo to name just a few.

Eventually, I want to thank my beautiful muses, Lara Laquiz, Yujin Choi, Myrto Kaukias, Lomi, Océane Godon, Zazou De Crécy, Clara Clément, Liliane Tang, Odonchimeg Davaadorj, Winnie Tran, Audrey Giacomini and every model who went in front of my. camera.
