We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Brianna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to pursue an artistic career because ever since I was a child, I loved the arts. I used to sing, dance, act, play instruments, and more. I always felt a special connection to the arts, and felt as if it was meant for me. Overtime, I fell short in my passions in grade school but once I graduated high school, something in me felt called to tap back in.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In 2020, I started two businesses. One was becoming a loctician, helping others in the black community feel more comfortable in their hair while promoting healthy, natural hair care. For a long time, black people have suffered great trauma and tribulations regarding their hair whether in the workforce, school, and at home. I also started a candle business due to my passion for aromatherapy. Along the way, I have learned the importance of discipline. Talent can only get you so far, but the real success is within the consistency and effort you continue to put into your craft. None of it was easy, and I wanted to give up so many times. But each time I kept pushing, something reminded me why I love what I do. I would also ask myself, why would I stop now? I’m closer to my dreams than I am when I started, and each minor set back propelled me even closer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestfriend was in town, the first thing I’d do is head to the beaches out here, get some good food maybe at Din Tai Fung, then head to a nice view to enjoy the night and catch up on everything we missed. I enjoy being in nature, or even going to an amusement park and having some fun. I’d also mention a picnic in the park with some paint and canvases, that way we can bond over a fun creative activity.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my mom, Lacresha Rizzo and my boyfriend, Brian Lindsey. – These two have been the best support system I could have asked for. They’ve continuously pushed me to be better while also recognizing my hard work and efforts. I love you both so much!
