Meet Luke Elder | Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Luke Elder and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luke, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
How do I define success? In a functional sense I’m not sure I know at this point. I’m still sort of figuring that out, it’s kind of an ever moving target. I develop a skill and or I am presented with information that alters my perception. I have to make functional changes and that in turn changes the circumstances, and circumstances affect the target.
In an idealistic way “success” is a fanbase audience that believes in what I’m doing and supports me just enough that I can return upon that investment in an honest and authentic way. Dedicate to myself, my family, and band to take that ride as far I am lucky enough to go, but be humble enough the process of creation and always be grateful for the work. I want to be genuine even in my mistakes.
Because the ideal isn’t guaranteed all I can do is focus on the functional and find the joy and worth in putting in the work regardless of the outcome.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a musician, singer-songwriter, storyteller, and dreamer, but I am also a business person trying to run a stable and growing arts-based business. It’s hard for me to say what sets me apart. I work hard and I’m honest in my creative intent. It’s not about perfection it is about truth. I can’t offer anything other than what I am. I try to create an environment that allows myself and my audience that same grace to exist as is but, don’t take my word for it, hear from some of them.
Infinite Ways: As seen By Olivia Robertson
“A sneak peek from the stories, generations, a full dive into the mind of Luke Elder. Literally feeling each song emotion to emotion and visuals immerging, in real-time as you intake every lyric and instrument being spoken and played. Looking around I see focus and laughs and love and understanding, a life agreement that this man, this band; us, as an audience have so much more in common than meets the eye. Explosions of chords; each member fully becoming their true self, energy flowing with vulnerability. Motivation and will to continue doing what you love without fear, like a loved one that reassures you everything will be okay is being in the audience of Luke Elder & the Infinite Ways.”
Infinite Ways journey: By audience member turned Band member, Garrison Smith
“Upon first hearing ‘Luke Elder and the Infinite Ways’ as part of the crowd I instantly felt a special connection with every person present in the room. Everyone felt part of a unique moment with Luke at the helm. Joining felt just like breathing, a natural reaction. Collectively facing the uncertainties of life by putting one foot in front of the other. Thanks to Luke and the others for an opportunity to tell a great story and become infinite in style, demeanor, and attitude throughout life…”
Luke Elder: By promoter Justin Hill
“Lucas Sinclair Elder is easily one of the most gifted and driven artisans I’ve ever met, though he doesn’t sell a tangible good what he offers is valued highly by those who are lucky enough to witness him.”
I got to where I am one task at a time. By learning skills and applying them to create forward momentum. By building relationships and allowing others to take ownership in the process and trust their guidance when needed, by carrying on by any means necessary through change and hardship. It hasn’t always been easy, but I have always gotten through by putting one foot in front of the other. Focusing on the tasks at hand that can be done.
Luke Elder and the Infinite Ways is an adventurous “rock” band in search of blending and creating styles of music. The music is built on a storytelling format but then we allow the music to naturally represent the atmosphere and characters of the story. This leads to a mixed bag of auditory possibilities,
Music is the expression of culture and a tether that brings and binds numerous peoples together. The Infinite Ways is a micro-culture within itself. One that is formed from the blending of the cultural, musical, and ethnic diversity of each member. bringing influences from folk, rock, prog, gospel, hip-hop, country, and even metal. This is further represented by our audience. Our scene identity is celebrating our differences and uniting one. We are the Infinite Ways, on stage, in the audience, and in our day-to-day lives. We are ever seeking the opportunity to extend and share our Infinite culture, to continue the thread of music’s power to inspire, build, and strengthen cross-cultural relationships into the future.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Here in Long Beach you have to start by checking out the variety of shops within the retro antique and thrift community. Go for a LONG stroll on the boardwalk, that may take us from the lighthouse to Belmont Shore and anywhere in between, Long Beach is surprisingly a walk-friendly city. The day ends at El Sauz, Shin, Harbor House Cafe, and a number of great Thai places, finishing off with wine and music at The Willmore Wine Bar on Atlantic.
When I’m in DTLA the Arts District for arcades, Chinatown & Little Tokyo for food, and Old DTLA for the historic buildings, clubs, and the Last Bookstore. If I want to give them a more music history visit it will be Hollywood, Sunset Strip, Lauryl Canyon, and Venice Beach to soak up some spots that played a major role in the development of American music as we know it today.
The great thing about living in Southern California is specifically the Greater LA area is that it’s so diverse, you can provide any number of unique experiences catering to anyone’s needs or interest.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people, but the one I must mention is my wife Olivia Elder. Over the last few years she has helped me refocus and function at a higher level, both in her support and physically taking on duties in the band office. Another must mention is Omar Mandozai, our work together made me re-shape the way I perceived myself in the “product” of my art and my responsibilities to cultivate it.
