We had the good fortune of connecting with Luciano Revera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luciano, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I believe I pursued an artistic career because I have always been the artistic type. I have never been very much inclined to math and to live life in general, from a mathematical perspective. As a teenager, I learned to play the guitar and played and sang in many bands. When I started studying photography, I was somewhat surprised that a lot (and by that, I mean A LOT) of professional photographers were also musicians. I love cinema and live theater, too. However, I have no talent at all for acting.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a San Diego-based Photographer specializing in Weddings, Maternity, and High School Seniors. I believe what sets me apart from my competitors is the fact that I value the experience I offer my clients, as well as the final products they receive. Take wedding clients for instance: One thing I do for all my wedding clients is to have an Engagement Session. In this session, I get to know the couple better and they get to know me better, too. They learn how my thought process is during the session and when the Wedding Day comes, they already know how it is going to be because we did it before. This makes them feel relaxed and their photos show their true personality, which is my final goal. Also, all my clients get an Album and individual prints for their sessions. The majority of photographers nowadays offer only digital images. This is a disservice to the client. What ends up happening is that those photos are rarely seen afterward. They end up in a flash drive at the bottom of a drawer or lost in the abyss called “the cloud”. I make sure my clients get a beautiful album and individual prints to adorn their homes. These photos get to be seen and cherished forever. I want my clients to look at their albums and remember how they were feeling when those photographs were taken, so they can relive those moments and feel those feelings all over again. I love what I do and I feel very honored and grateful to be chosen to document such important moments in people’s life. I think this is the greatest reward of my profession. Of course, there are challenges and difficulties, but I tend to focus on the bright side of things. I believe that by focusing on the good I diminish the effects of the bad things in my life. My greatest expectation regarding my business is that I want to continue turning clients into friends.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Diego really did steal my heart. Everyone who knows me knows how crazy I am about San Diego and consider it the best city in the world. You can find places to visit and activities for all kinds of personalities in San Diego. For me, one of the best things to do here is to take a drive from La Jolla all the way to Oceanside through the Historical Highway 101. There are so many spots to stop and enjoy the view of the coast, or to hang out in one of the many restaurants and bars along the way. However, when it comes to going out for lunch or dinner, my family has two favorite places: The Japanese restaurant on Garnet Ave in Pacific Beach, called Ichiban, and the steak house, bar, and grill called Chille’s on Sports Arena Blvd in Point Loma. Another very cool place to visit in San Diego is the Cabrillo Monument in Point Loma with stunning views of the different parts of the city. As a photographer, I feel obligated to also mention the Balboa Park. It’s unbelievably beautiful and with so many different attractions and activities.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this Shoutout interview to my wife Priscila Sarmento, and my two kids, Matheus and Lucas for the support, encouragement, and love they offer me on a daily basis. Also, to a mentor I found through YouTube, who has shaped my view of the world. His name is Jim Rohn. Although I never met him and only came across his teachings after his death, his body of work is phenomenal. For those who don’t know him, he was Tony Robbins’s mentor. I recommend everyone search for Jim Rohn on YouTube and watch his seminars. It’s a life-changing experience!
