We had the good fortune of connecting with Louie Espitia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Louie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was inspired to start recording and engineering on my own after working with Jacob Summers in his home studio in Los Angeles. I have always loved music and really enjoyed the recording process when my band was making our first recordings, so after seeing that it was possible to accomplish decent-sounding recordings at home, I decided to start learning on my own in order to be able to make and record music whenever I wanted to. Friends and other creatives began to reach out to work with me on music and I learned how to run sessions and grow as a producer/engineer through those experiences.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is mainly focused in making music and mixing music to sound as close to “radio-ready” as possible. Most of my work is rooted in producing music for my personal band, Your Westies. They are essential to bedroom baby, because they are the reason bedroom baby exists in the first place. Bedroom baby is unique in that it is an all-in-one art production brand. I help produce and mix music, as well as make visuals/films for music videos.

Getting to this point was both easy and rather difficult; it is easy to produce and make things in general, because I have such a passion for creation that I generally always feel compelled to make things, whether it be music or visuals. The difficult part has been learning how to become proficient in all the different aspects of creation – recording, mixing, filming, video editing, 2D design, social media etc. Social media is the next aspect I am hoping to grow in. Youtube is the most valuable learning tool that I’ve come across, because I was able to essentially learn everything that I know from there.

I’ve learned that the only way to work sustainably as an artist is to balance your time and workload. I currently work a “normal” 9-5 job and after years of learning and doing creative side quests, it can be easy to burn out. Also, I find it critical to make art that you enjoy, because at the end of the day you should be creating art because you love the act of creating it.

I would like the world to know that bedroom baby is a “from the dirt” brand – essentially, bedroom baby has been about growing from nothing and working with what we’ve got, and appreciating all growth, no matter how small.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I recently moved bedroom baby out to Los Angeles, and some of my fav spots are the beaches (malibu / topanga), the getty museum, and sawtelle (for the japanese restaurants and markets).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Girl Racers – This is an indie band that is from my hometown area. I’ve been able to work on their mixes and grow as a mixing engineer through this. I have a lot of appreciation and love for the band, because they trusted me with helping get their mixes ready for distribution. Through working on their music, I’ve had the opportunity to further refine some audio mixing skills. I’ve Working with them is always so much fun because their music is brilliant – it always makes mixing enjoyable when I get to work on music I genuinely love. They continue to work on their craft alongside bedroom baby and I can’t wait for everybody to hear what’s next from them.
