We had the good fortune of connecting with Lori Overstreet and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lori, how do you think about risk?
Risk is defined as a situation involving exposure to danger. If you think about it, we take risk in our everyday lives but let’s talk about risk from a business owner’s standpoint. When I started Imagine This, I was working full time and taking care of my sick mother.
I knew that there was a huge risk in leaving the 9-5 world, not only was I losing a steady income but also my 401K and benefits.
Looking back now, however, I would do it 10 times over. I am able live my dream, as a wedding planner, and make my client’s special days magical.
My happiness was worth taking the risk.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I enjoy working with clients who trust me and my unique creative design. I like to bring elements of nature into my design while still making it classic and timeless. I am proud that I have come this far in creative design because it used to be an area I lacked confidence in. It wasn’t until I created my first table-scape for Thanksgiving that I realized I had an eye for design. I started designing floral arrangements, events and parties (even my High School Prom). The rest is history!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I am in southern California quite frequently. Although my home base is in Charlotte, San Diego is a second home. When I bring my friends to visit San Diego there are a few places that are always on my list to take them. Below is a list of places that we have to visit. Merika Cafe – Cutest little cafe with the best acai bowls
La Jolla Cove Snorkeling – Some of the most unique snorkeling I have done in the United States
George’s At The Cove – Best food with the best view in La Jolla
Bonfire on Mission Bay – Grab some wood and grab a pit for a relaxing bonfire on the beach.
Sunset Cliffs – Catch the most beautiful sunsets in the world.
East Jesus – Yes, a little drive out of town but so unique
Harbor Dinner Cruise – Sightsee while eating a delicious meal
Balboa Park – One of the most beautiful parks in the world.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to the Planners Vault.
Before I found the Planners Vault, I was struggling with the day-to-day task of the wedding industry.
When I found the Planners Vault, I was given the resources that I need to build an even more successful business. The planning community in the Vault has been instrumental in growing my business and helping it succeed, not to mention the lifelong friends that I have made through the Vault.
