We had the good fortune of connecting with Linda Gatt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Linda, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
A sincere commitment to my clientele is the most important factor behind the success of my brand. For each and every client I give my absolute best. I go into every single service aiming to help my clients achieve their ultimate hair goal I want all my clients to know how much I truly care about them and their happiness. When I am not behind that chair I am partaking in color/extension/haircutting classes to help me stay ontop of the latest hair trends. My goal is for every client that sits in my chair to know how much I value and appreciate them.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a hairstylist located in Del Mar. I specialize in sunkissed and lived in color. I am inspired by the ocean and the natural lightening the sun and salt does to our hair. My goal is to make my clients look like they spend their days at the beach, which I believe fits perfectly into the San Diego lifestyle. I believe that taking continuing education classes is the best way to stay on top of the ever changing trends. Even if you have a full clientele it is so important to know how to bring the latest to the person sitting in your chair. I absolutely love what I do and love that I get to make people feel confident. Hair has always been my passion, however, I did start my career in a completely different field. When I turned 18 I moved to San Diego from Massachusetts. I graduated from USD with a degree in Accounting and Finance. After working in the corporate sector for a few years my passion for hair did not go away. One day, I got the courage to leave my job and attend Paul Mitchell the School in San Diego. Once I graduated I assisted at a hair salon in Little Italy for a year, after that I went to Los Angeles to assist at a celebrity hair salon. While I enjoyed LA and learned a tremendous amount I felt it was time to come back to San Diego. Upon moving to San Diego I built my clientele quickly and moved up the ranks from an assistant to a master stylist. Behind every success story is always lot of hard work! Having a supportive group of family, friends, or significant other is so important. I was never made to feel guilty for working too much to achieve my goals. They encouraged me to keep going even when I was burned out. It is so important to be surrounded by people that believe in you. If you are a budding stylist, I urge you to keep going! Success does not happen overnight! I absolutely love what I do, I pay extremely close attention to detail and my goal is for everyone to have healthy hair that makes them feel confident.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a Del Mar resident I would start there! My favorite thing to do in the morning is to go to Lofty Coffee on Cedros for an oat milk latte and walk my pup along Dog Beach in Del Mar. Cruising the 101 is a must. I remember when I moved to San Diego and I could not believe the beauty of the ocean and the cool local shops and restaurants set along it. My husband and I’s favorite spot for dinner is the Grill at the Lodge at Torrey Pines. It has excellent sunset views and such a relaxing outdoor atmosphere to enjoy a drink with friends.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The incredible salon I work at each and everyday, Capsyl Salon, definitely deserves a shoutout! Kelly Trojnar is the owner of the salon and she has created the most gorgeous and inspirational space to craft beautiful hair. Kelly leaves no detail behind in Capsyl Salon. From the sweeping views to most instaworthy interior the space itself awes every person that walks in. Capsyl Salon is truly a wonderful space to sit down, have a glass of wine, and relax while you get your hair done. Thank you Kelly! I am so proud to be apart of Capsyl Salon!
