We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Twigg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want people to remember how I made them feel. I hope to inspire, motivate, and show love. I think that is why I’ve always enjoyed working with kids so much. It has always been easy to know how they feel. They reciprocate positive energy and joy so freely. They are also unafraid to share hard emotions. I want to be a safe place for others and create an environment for growth.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are a cardio boxing and bootcamp class based gym. What sets us apart is our sense of family and community. We offer kids boxing classes; which is one of my favorite aspects of our gym. Our team is absolutely amazing. My coaches and staff are reliable, kind, talented and caring. We show up for each other and our clients.

My journey to becoming a business owner was not linear. I have been in education for most of my life. I have taught in various settings such as preschool, private elementary school, and a therapeutic horse back riding center. It wasn’t until this year, that I became interested in running my own business. Now that I am, I feel like this is what I was meant to do.

I was working at a preschool in Encinitas and looking for a full time position, when my former bodybuilding coach and friend, Luis Briseno, and I connected about opening an HWD Fitness location in north San Diego County. I went through a divorce during the pandemic and was on my own for the first time in my life. It had been a huge transition and growth process. It was time for a change and new adventure.

I had a lot of support from friends and family and made the leap from preschool teacher to business owner. I tried to balance both for a few months and realized quickly I could not. I still go to the preschool and teach yoga once a week; which fills my soul.

I’ve learned countless lessons in the last 6 months and continue to learn daily. I learn lessons about myself and the business. Balance is a huge part of owning a business. I have to take naps most days to keep up with the constant grind of teaching classes, training and daily business tasks. I love to be in the gym all the time. So I need to remember to leave in the middle of the day to get some rest. I also need to leave at the end of the day, make sure I eat healthy meals and go to bed at a reasonable hour. I never want to miss seeing my clients. I found that I love to bring in new members. Helping new clients reach their goals is a great feeling. I also love seeing my team build relationships with each other. I’m learning to use my voice as a leader, manage a budget, keep the gym clean, and growing the business.

We are in a very exciting stage of growth now.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I would take my best friend to see my horses at Savoir Faire Stables. I have two horses, Zandreau and Dancer. Those are my babies. Then we would go to the beach. I really like Carlsbad State Beach and Oceanside Pier.
Walking around Carlsbad Village is nice and Carlsbad Village Music is a fun store.
I recently went roller skating at Skateworld in San Diego. My best friend and I did a lot of that when we were little, so I would probably take her there.
Another place I would go, is Potato Chip Rock hike in Poway. its a challenging hike and the view is amazing. It’s kind of scary at the top, but totally worth it.
Finally, we would go to Disneyland, because that is the happiest place on earth.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a lot of people to give shoutouts to, for helping me get to this point in my life. Mainly, the love and support of my family. My mom, dad, and sister. Without them I would not have been able to do any of this.
