We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When first starting out in my career. I would say yes to everyone and work long into the night. That got old pretty quickly.
Now everything is scheduled out and I keep work hours. Now do I bend them every so often? Of course but for the most part I stick to a schedule.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I never really looked at my self as an artist. I actually didn’t accept this term for the first 6 years of my career.
I was like I’m just a photographer.
But then it was when I hired an editor to help with the work load on the computer end of things. Which I became all to aware that I was an artist and no editor could replace me as they did not see the final product of what I wanted to deliver.
Now I still use an editor from time to time. Mostly for just skin work and background clean up. But I have to put my final touches on the images.

If your an artist and want to grow. Remember perfection does not exist and you will have to choose what you delegate out and what you want to keep for yourself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I was to visit San Diego as a tourist.
I would have these top places on the list.

San Diego Zoo
Mt Solidad the view cannot be beat hear
La Jolla children’s pool or Sunset cliffs to see the ocean.
Balboa Park is a must see.
Driving over the Coronado Bridge and going to ferry landing is a great city view like no other.
The last stop for me would be the lighthouse on Point Loma Point.

Now for food.
Olympic Greek cafe is a favorite if you love Mediterranean food.
Burgers you definitely want to try Hodads and there basket of fries.
Mexican seafood Karina’s in National city is a favorite.
One of my top favorites when I’m wanting comfort food would be El Salvadoreño with their Papusa’s and rice and beans.
Truly though here in SD there is so much great food. You can’t go wrong.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As an entrepreneur I continue to educate my self on all things businesses and for my photography career. I love keeping up with the latest trends and supporting the community.
A few Facebook groups in my niche are some of the greatest supports for learning and venting when you need to.
In the Beginning of my career. I was learning from online retreat classes. Which truly helped my business grow even more because in turn it helped me get better at my portrait work. My portfolio became solid.
