We had the good fortune of connecting with Larisa Burton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Larisa, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It’s what fulfills me no matter what’s happening in the world. Art has always been my outlet for expressing myself. I’m grateful it can also be my job.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a henna artist. I started doing birthday parties and girls night in parties last summer. I became even more invested in my business after the positive word of mouth around the city. I realized I could absolutely be a henna artist and jewelry designer. It’s the best of both worlds. Now, Mauvelous You’s Jewelry style is both earthy and celestial. Some say it gives a boho chic vibe. My most popular pieces are the wire wrapped gemstone earrings and necklaces. My challenges have been the tech side of things. I’ve learned that going at my own pace is ok. I believe when you stay true to yourself and God nothing you strive for will fail. Im proud of myself for being consistent and showing up for what I really desire in life and being and trying to be a positive example to my daughter. Mauvelous You is about embracing the mauvelous already within yourself. The brand is here to help you celebrate that through henna and handmade jewelry.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Toledo has a lot to offer when it comes to locally owned restaurants. For food Sebastiano’s Italiano and for drinks and music The Heights. There’s a fun Candle Shop downtown, Callisto Terra offers candle making classes, Wine down Friday & Kraft Night inside of the Art on Market Shoppe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and best friends have believed in me from the jump. I’m very grateful for the advice and encouragement over the years. I started with paintings about 3 years ago. 2 years ago I found my niche with Henna and Jewelry! Rebecca Tansel of Rebecca Rae Creative Services catapulted my business by creating my website. Mauvelousyou.com is now a place where everyone can access my small batch jewelry and book henna.
