We had the good fortune of connecting with Kym LeGolvan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kym, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My work is centered around helping businesses create respectful, inclusive, and healthy work environments. As an attorney workplace investigator, companies hire me to investigate allegations of workplace misconduct, such as discrimination, retaliation, bullying, or harassment. In my investigative process, I bring a unique mix of compassion, empathy, and diligence that allows me to fully vet the merits of any workplace complaints or concerns. This ultimately provides the company with much needed closure, protection from legal liability, and a written report that allows the company to make an informed decision on how to resolve any workplace conflict. Conducting thorough, impartial investigations are critical to maintaining the equitable workplace that employees and employers deserve.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
LeGolvan Law is a San Diego workplace investigations firm that conducts impartial workplace investigations for California employers. When a company receives an internal complaint from an employee about workplace misconduct, I’ll come in as an independent investigator to talk to the employees involved, collect other documentary evidence (e.g., emails, text messages, performance reviews, etc.), and ultimately provide the company with all of the information necessary to determine how to resolve the situation. In my experience, conducting impartial workplace investigations with compassion and empathy creates the best outcome for employers, allowing them to make informed decisions while providing a positive experience for everyone involved. I believe that happy employees and healthy relationships are critical to promoting a safe, inclusive, and legally compliant work environment.

LeGolvan Law is a certified woman-owned business. I founded the firm in March 2021, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with a toddler and one-year-old baby to boot. Opening my own business during that time taught me lessons in vigilance, patience, and optimism. Through this, I’ve learned to embrace the uncertainty and enjoy the ride. I couldn’t possibly have done it without the support of my family, friends, and mentors, and the inspiration from other women and fellow “momtrepreneurs” who, like me, have not let the challenges of being a working mom stop them from pursuing their dreams.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Balboa Park is my happy place and one of my favorite places to visit in San Diego. Even though I have been there countless times (I even got married there!), I always discover new things and have a different experience each time I’m there. I love to grab coffee in the Spanish Village Art Center, walk past the koi pond through the museums, eat lunch in the center at Panama 66, and then make my way to the San Diego Museum of Art’s Sculpture Garden. When I bring my kids, they love to ride the carousel and the train, and watch the magicians, musicians, and other vendors throughout the park. It’s always a peaceful time — either alone, with friends, or with the entire family. My friends and family know that when they come to visit, we are going to end up at Balboa Park, and sometimes more than once.

I also love bringing visitors to some of the new, hip places in my neighborhood in Del Mar. I love eating, drinking, and shopping in One Paseo, and now at the new Sky Deck in Del Mar Highlands. These places have all of my favorite things: good people, great ambiance, outdoor seating, and of course, strong coffee (I love Blue Bottle!).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As I began developing my vision for conducting empathetic workplace investigations, my husband was my biggest cheerleader. I had worked for several law firms before opening my own, and he had a front row seat to my professional and personal growth and my ultimate decision to be my own boss. He knew that I would thrive having my own investigations law firm, and he encouraged and supported me every step of the way.
