We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylie Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kylie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Pursuing a creative career path was less of a conscious choice and more of a natural progression for me. In my early twenties, I was bursting with ideas and would pitch them to anyone who would listen. Eventually, I ended up taking matters into my own hands and launching my creative services to various small businesses in Southern California. It took time, but soon enough I was able to build a sustainable roster of clients who saw the value in my work. The thing about happy clients is that they create a snowball effect, especially when working in niche markets such as hospitality or fashion. Since then, I haven’t looked back.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always felt a strong need to have the ability to express myself creatively in my career and combine my personal interests and passions with a fierce work ethic. I want to continue building myself into a resource that brand new or long-established companies feel they can come to and trust for creative direction and brand guidance. Before anything else, I am a storyteller. Specializing in digital media management and content creation, I take a unique approach to each client that I work with because no two are the same. I provide my clients with unbiased, genuine advice and guidance no matter what category they fall into. Growing up in Southern California, I feel that I have a strong grasp on the direction that many industries are heading in this unique, thriving region of ours. Working with small to mid-sized companies, I’ve found that they are often the most ingenious and forward-thinking as they have nowhere to go but up.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Where to start! San Diego truly has it all, from award-winning restaurants to picture-perfect sunsets and everything in between. The restaurants in Little Italy are unmatched – just take a walk down India St. and pick one that looks good! For a day trip, driving up the coast to Encinitas brings you to a hip, upscale downtown area complete with boho restaurants, chic cafes, and even an antique movie theater right on PCH.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Navigating the waters of starting your own business is daunting. That being said, I have a laundry list of amazing individuals who helped guide me through the process. From drafting my first invoice, to tax forms, to client management, it takes a village. I am lucky enough to have had caring friends, professors, and mentors to help me along the way.
