We had the good fortune of connecting with Ky Do and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ky, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After working in the corporate world for a long time, I thought it would be interesting to “be my own boss”. Also, I wanted to do something that I feel positively impacts my community and world.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own and operate a Vegan Market located in Vista, California. The name of my business is Thousand Petal Lotus. The thousand petal lotus, also known as the crown chakra, symbolizes supreme pure consciousness and spiritual enlightenment. It is connected with the universal mind and is the domain of ultimate truth, beauty, and bliss. I named my business this because I believe that living the Vegan lifestyle represents the thousand petal lotus.

What I’m most proud about my business is I’m helping my fellow human beings with a compassionate, more conscience, and healthier way of living. I believe what we put in our bodies directly effects how we act on a conscious level.

I’ve only been in business for 2 months. It’s been very challenging. This is my first business. I am learning everything as I go. However, I’ve received so much support from my Vegan community and fellow Vegan business owners that have helped me tremendously.

I try to overcome these challenges by doing my best to offer my customers the most competitive prices. I’m not in this business to be rich. I did this to help improve the lives of the people around me, for our animal friends, and for our beautiful world.

The lessons that I have learned thus far in my life is to love and respect everyone. Show compassion, empathy, and understanding to all our co-inhabitants in this world. To always do the right thing because it’s the right thing. To smile and be happy with who we are. To accept others for who they are. To remember that we are not perfect. And this is ok. Please forgive yourself. This is what my brand and business represent.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Diego is so vast and beautiful with so many places to go and things to see and people to talk to. Hikes, deserts, nude beach, all the wonderful vegan restaurants, temples, mountains. San Diego is a place where one can go to surfing, snowboarding, and dirt bike riding in the desert in one day if so inclined.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and friends have supported me throughout this journey called life. My Vegan community that have showered me with love and encouragement. I have been so lucky to have such a beautiful support system. Ultimately, I owe everything to the creator.
