We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Swanson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started out just selling items around my house that I no longer needed and quickly started seeing how much money I could make, this was back in 2010. I eventually ran out of my own things to sell so I would frequent thrift stores, garage sales and estate sales to find items to resell. The thrill of finding the items is what keeps me going to this day. I eventually quit my 9-5 job and went full time as a reseller. I love the flexibility this line of work provides.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Reselling full time is very difficult as a lot is out of my control but I’ve learned to focus on what is in my control and I focus on that. Consistency is key, and I strongly believe that is what has gotten me to where I am today. Some days are full of returns and other are full of sales, either way I continue to focus on listing new items and posting on social media. When you’re self employed drive is very important.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love San Diego as there is so much to do! We have so many flea markets and as you might have guessed I frequent them often. Some of my favorite places include Balboa Park and the museums followed by lunch at Mitch’s Seafood, absolutely the best fish in town in my opinion then ending with Extraordinary Desserts. North County also has a lot to offer, the Oceanside Pier and Carlsbad’s Ponto Beaches are also a must see.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to thank my husband for being so supportive of my crazy ideas! I’ve come home with cars spilling clothes out the windows several times.
