Meet Kimberly Dotseth | Broker and Owner of Blend Luxury Real Estate and Real Estate Instructor at Blend Click

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Dotseth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The brand has evolved. When I first got my broker’s license in October 2007 and opened my own shop, I went by Green Box Homes. We did a “green” or “energy” analysis of every home we sold and ultimately we figured out that no one really cared. People do care about energy conservation and green things, and a happier planet, but when it comes to real estate, they just wanted the keys. So in 2013, I rebranded to Blend Real Estate — a combination of thoughts went into that name, but I preferred something simple, one syllable and somewhat ethereal. In 2020, during the pandemic but just before, I rebranded to Blend Luxury Real Estate to kick it up a notch, grown the brand and grow the business in a polished, more luxury way.
In 2021, I added a division called Blend Click, which is where I teach masterminds and mini courses to other agents. That outlet, while not about selling homes, gives me a chance to think differently and share a vast amount of knowledge.
The success of my brand or really any brand is to be recognizable, but nimble. And really not dilute the brand with too much activity. We are primarily listing agents of homes somewhere between $700K and several million, we are spectacular at our jobs and work in a small boutique environment with a pretty loose budget. It’s all about keeping the clients overjoyed.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, this is very separate from my real estate career, but I have a huge art collection. Hundreds of pieces. I have been collecting paintings and photography since the late 1980s and love art so much, I became an art dealer in 1990 and opened Red Venus Gallery, a fine-art photo gallery in Little Italy in downtown San Diego, I did close it by 1999 as I was transitioning from commercial real estate, doing Red Venus on the side, to residential real estate. I felt it best to focus 100% on my new career direction.
But my love of art never changes. My Instagram goes through my art collection in spurts. I love to show people the items that I collect and share them with that world. During the pandemic in fact, I made it my mission to collect the art of “new” artists I found only on Instagram, buying pieces between $50 and a few hundred dollars. I absolutely loved “the mission” of supporting them financially in tough times, making their friendships real and putting their stunning art on my walls. Not all fabulous original art costs thousands.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, we must start with soup, quesadillas and margaritas at Fidel’s in Solana Beach. A true insider’s place and part of my husband’s and my stomping grounds. I would take her to Cedros Avenue after that for some unique shopping at Parravi Jewelry and Suzan’s, two stores under one roof run by a mother and daughter and I love them. I only really walk on the beach in the winter because it’s so romantic and cold. So, we’d probably buzz down Cedros to head over to Solo, the shop that Carole runs and pick up a splurge beach blanket/scarf thingy and head to Del Mar.
We also are wine club members at Carruth Winery also on Cedros, so North County coastal can take up a lot of hours!
Within the city of San Diego — we head to the best pizza on the planet (except for Broadway Pizza in Richfield, MN) and that’s to Carino’s Pizza on La Jolla Boulevard, and we’d have to eat it there.
I also love the outlet malls in San Diego and while I don’t go too often, I love the one at the Viejas Casino, since it’s such a trippy location, typically hot weather and very different from coastal San Diego! We’d check out the Gap, for sure.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think it would be great to shoutout to my girl in the back country, the single person most killing it right now, and that’s Tiffany Bagalini. Tiffany’s story is INSANE. She was my paperwork person, the transaction coordinator. She knew my business intimately inside and out and was my right hand person. She then decided to try her hand at real estate sales and, sadly, she left my side, but we remain amazing friends. THEN she left the city of San Diego and bought a house in the back country and became a country woman. Horses, goats, family, lilacs, you name it. Then by some miracle, I am not sure she knows what a miracle this is, the owner of a VERY established, long time real estate firm, Julian Realty, met Tiffany on a real estate sale and offered to sell her the entire business.
Mic drop.
I told her she must buy it, she did, and is right now the agent/owner and is currently studying for her broker’s test to join me in the world as a broker owner. I love her! TiffanyBagalini@gmail.com
