Meet Keyana Palomera | Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Keyana Palomera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keyana, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My end goal is to have fun while doing something I love . In this case , I’ve always had a love for fashion. The goal is to work on a set , preferably styling for a magazine. I’m currently working for two small up and coming magazines in LA and SD !

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always loved fashion from a very young age . Shoot, I distinctly remember that at the age of 8 , I had my dream college picked out already. A few years of art (middle and high school ), being fashion club president, taking screen printing classes , and modeling for my instagram posts later …I ended up going to my dream school FIDM. I would enroll as a fashion design major.
My childhood dream was cut short due to having to drop out of college . My family had moved to Mexico. I was crossing the border every day to go to school and work. Get this ! I was a full time student, with a full time job, crossing the border full time. My dream of becoming a fashion designer quickly gave way to the worst mental state of my life . I was tired and failing my classes. I barely had time to study and nowhere to finish my assignments. After 3 quarters of school , I dropped out.
A few years later, I started selling vintage clothing. I always had a knack for finding cool secondhand pieces. Other people noticed too. I started posting to depop and then that led me to sell in person. I loved getting to see all the cool fashionable people face to face with clothing that I curated. The vintage community in San Diego really made an impact on me in this way.
Taking pictures of my friends in the clothing I would find made me want to explore what I could do even more . This is where the love for styling was born.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well first off , we need some matcha to fuel our first day of thrifting. Matcha cafe Maiko in Clairemont is my favorite spot in San Diego. Then, we would hit up a few vintage markets and thrift stores. Another day would consist of a beautiful hike up in La Jolla Torrey Pines. I would then cook up a home made breakfast. A great spot for later in the day would definitely be An’s Dry Cleaning . A must for anyone visiting San Diego!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shoutout to the people I’ve met on my journey so far. Everyone that I have worked with has seen something in me and has given me a chance to show them my craft. If not for them, I wouldn’t have realized that styling is the direction I want to head in.
Seeing everyone come together on a project (photographers, make up artists, set design, hair stylist, lighting, etc.) is what makes me the happiest. I love getting to be able to see a shared effort to create something beautiful.
