We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Argueta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It was never a discussion I had in my mind, I was always this way. Growing up, my mind was bursting with ideas. There isn’t a day in my childhood where I wasn’t painting on my moms walls, or writing short stories on the back of my school notebook.

When I look to the path that led me here, I can’t see it leading me anywhere else. Art consumes my thoughts. Even if I try, I can’t pay attention to anything else.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I see visual story telling as the strongest forms of story telling. To me it is an attempt to manipulate your emotions. A good movie can make you cry, laugh, or change your whole perspective. My obsession has always remained on re-creating the work of filmmakers before me, while adding my own twist to it. Learning on my own has been the only way I kept those emotions in my work, not having someone else tell me what to shoot or what to write. That’s all it is to me, there are no rules, just a feeling.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Recently I went to a nice roller skating rink by Glendale. I fell on my back one too many times, especially considering I’m a skateboarder, but it was a great time with my friends. I also re-visited the Getty Villa recently, that place is always captivating no matter how many times you go.

As for a great place to eat in LA, just stop at the first place you see with a long line, just make sure it’s not Titos Tacos.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I got to give a shout out to my good friend Mar.

I started pointing my camera at skaters in my high school days. Mario Realegeno was our local legend, a professional skateboarder from our area. My friends and the kids from my area looked up to him, he had photos in magazines, he knew everybody, and everybody knew him.

The world of skateboarding was still new to me, so I understand why a lot of skateboarders turned their shoulder on me. Mario on the other hand, recognized my efforts despite my little experience. He looked passed my inexpensive equipment that consisted of a go pro, and an iPhone.

To say he showed me the ropes is an understatement. He believed in me the way an older brother does, this shout out is dedicated to him.
